Laing D5 Buggered or am I asking too much?

Hmmmmm starting to think you are right now. Sorry for dismissing your suggestion but having lugged my case into every orientation and shaking it, I was convinced it couldn't be that.

However, yes the level in the res increases slightly and it does hiss when you open it so the symtoms fit.

It's just how the hell you get rid of it :(

I have always found getting the air out of a system one of the hardest aspects of watercooling.
I found the best way was not getting a lot of air in, in the first place.
When I strip down my loop, I gravity fill from the highest point. I then fill the res & turn the pump on & off to get the fluid around making sure the res is never empty.
As your loop is now filled, you have to get you res at the highest point in the loop.
I do this by putting my case on its side & removing the pump/res from the case.
I then put the pump/res higher than anything else.
I then run like this for as long as I can before Mrs Piggin gives me heartache.
I have also been known to give the case a good shake periodically.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Spent over an hour with the thing upside down, got loads of air out of the bottom rad.

Put all back up right, and now I have a great big air bubble in the pipe leading to the bottom rad which gets sucked into the rad when I start the pump but never comes out :(

I think (another) full strip down is going to be in order and follow your filling up advice Mr Piggin.

Just hope Mrs Greebo can cope as she is giving me grief how long this new build is taking. It's been over two weeks now and I haven't even started cable tidying yet.

Air in the system can be a complete nightmare.
Air will always rise to the top. If you move the case around you can direct the air out to the res.
The only way I can explain this is by using the analogy of the game where you move a maze around in your hands to get a steel ball bearing to the finish.
This is what you have to do with the air.

Also good luck with the Mrs.
