Hi folks,

Need a whole bunch of wine to survive my few weeks off of work being festive.

There is an Amex offer for 35 off of 100 at Laithwaites and something less good for NakedWines.

Does anyone use these services? Can anyone recommend how best to spend a hundred quid at Laithwaites? They do a kit for 65 which includes some freebies so presumably that is super cheap plonk (or they are making a mega loss and hoping you stick around!).

Thanks

They do sell some good wines at proper prices but not in those bundles in my opinion. I've ordered all my Christmas wines from the wine society, but they won't offer you £3 bottles of plonk bundled with some stemless glasses if that's your thing.
Any tips on how to get started? I literally have no idea (I am the guy who buys the £10 wine because it is slightly more than the £7 wine and a lot less than the £20 wine).

Laithwaites here, they’ve got some really nice wines and I’ve found the next day delivery ahem, very useful. You may end up kissing a lot of pigs though. Prices are ok but not spectacular. You definitely want to buy by the case to get the discounts. I’d normally pay 130-150 for a case with my favourites in.
Do you mind sharing what your favourites are? Running on fumes here.

Thanks chaps. I think this is experimental "plonk" for the festive period, so not exactly down for a discerning palette/occasion. I'll grab the Laithwaites best value "luxury" deal and see how I fare considering some of the recommendations in here.

This is purely a stock cupboard exercise; I'll revert back for proper drinks from some of the more reputable places it sounds like.

Thank you

Thanks for all of the advice everyone. I will definitely be fixing my wine knowledge in the new year. However in the mean time I have done an 18 bottle shop at £4.82 a bottle (maths below) which'll hopefully get me through Christmas.

Ignored all the helpful advice from the forum and ended up with:

6 bottles of Prosecco RRP £77.94 -> £53.94
12 bottles of red/white/rose RRP 190.40 -> £107.88
Total: £268.34 (in make belief land) or £161.82 in slightly more realistic land; and then there was a £40 voucher so got it for £121.82

...Which I then stacked with an AMEX offer (£35 cashback over £100) to get it down to £86.82. So hopefully none of these bottles are that bad that £4.82/bottle is too much to pay!
