Bit of a strange one but here goes.

Just (well almost finished) redecorated my bedroom. I laid a laminate floor and it looks fantastic. I decided to opt for a good quality flooring and also the better quality underlay with the foil side for sound proofing.

I have a PC char from Ikea which has wheels on the bottom.

I would like to know if, over time, this will damage the laminate flooring at all?

If so then I will buy a nice runner rug but if not then I don't think I will bother.

Many thanks,

Chris

Get one of them clear perspex floor protectors, make sure you get the non spiked one though as they're for carpets.

Or donate your chair to me and sit on the floor instead :)

Not sure mate, maybe just put a spare bit of your stuff under your chair and see what happens plus it saves you money.

I have always thought that these looks a bit naffy in a non-office environment. (OK so I work from home but it's not an office as such)

I havnt had any issues with my office chair on the laminate floor in my bedroom and its cheap tat :) Would never use one of those plastic mats because they are horrible.

The floors are very hard wearing and your typical office chair has 5 wheels so the actual pressure at each wheel is minimal.

It scratches mine to pieces, had to get a small rug
That was my concern. If a small stone gets under the wheel or something it will probably scratch it. My drive is covered in small stones too...

If you have bought good quality (heavy duty) laminate flooring it should be fine.
Mine in this room has been down for a few years and where my chair is it is fine

I guess it also depends on how "heavy" you are lol. Trying to maintain some political correctness here :D

One of my ex housemates had laminate flooring in his bedroom and a similar chair setup and after about a year of use the floor looked like it had been nuked.

It had pot holes, scratches, dents, delves, you name it.

Then again he was about the same size of Michael Moore.

You could just do what he did though if that happened .... never tidy up again and eventually your floor will disappear under all your clothes, rubbish and dust :)

of course it will scratch the laminate the moment anything gets on the wheels and when the wheels rotate.
Just shine light at an angle and you will see the marks

Laminate is just chipboard/mdf covered in printed paper with plastic layer.

It scrathes but if you have decent quality laminate it aint too bad, mines fairing quite well after a year or so :)

its not....laminate flooring is usually treated MDF with an oak, maple or whatever vanear.....if there rubber wheels you'll be fine.....as long as the laminate flooring you have is for heavy traffic use.

with wheely chairs, you keep going, going, still going, aaaand still going. until eventually you get to the other side of your room. its really good fun

and i suggest you don't kick the wall, because you never know how you end up.

My friend did that and put a hole in his wall :p

Mine is good quality laminate, and its kinda faded in the area off tiny little scratches, has a whiter shade than the rest of the room :-/
