Well, add 1 wet road, one tired driver, a slightly heavy right foot, a crap handleing car at the best of times, a roundabout, a lack of concentration, and a lampost, and then mix to that a bit of understeer and this is the result..........

My own fault, no other cars or badgers involved ;) First time in 7 years of driving I've crashed and hopefully it'll be the last! Add to add to that I'm only 3rd party fire and theft so out of pocket aswell!!
With my garage being broken into last week and loads of stuff getting nicked, and now this, my lucks not been the best recently!!!

It depends what he's used to, I suppose? If he's been driving 7 years his last car could have been a Noble. In which case, in comparison, it is crap :p

*Awaits Dale's elaboration*

I lol'd at the handling comment. Not because it's untrue, but because it comes from an owner and driver :)

Unlucky, my good fellow. Are you going to repair it or send it to the pile of French hatchbacks in the sky?

ouch, unlucky..

are you going to fix it?

Don't think so, top and bottom cross members are goosed, and drivers inner wing and the chassis down by the altenator is a bit bent as you can see in the pics. Looking into selling it as a whole as damaged repairable or spares.
Only got mot'd last week and it flew through, rest of the cars in good nick so hopefully someone will want to repair it or strip it for parts.

Compared to my mk4 Astra sri I had before this, then yes the car handles poor in comparison (imo). As said in my 2nd post it was totally my fault and will learn from it. **** happens, just glad I walked away ok and pushed it home!!

Well you've proper made a mess of that haven't you :p
Should have got the handbrake on got sideways a bit of opposite lock and then power out of it.
I am making light of it mate and sorry for your loss really.
Happens to us all mate but it's only metal and as long as knowone gets hurt don't worry about it.

Really? Weird, I felt that my VTR handled FAR better than my ex's 2.0 SRi.

Sorry to hear about the accident though fella.

I felt a lot more comforatable with the astra's handling and limits comparted to the saxo. Might just be me but it the wet the saxo was pretty poor. could have been the Vredistein tyres I had on but even the other sets before that never filled me with confidence. Maybe I got too used to ABS and TC in the Astra and got lazy.

I find the tyres make my 106 GTi. When I put new semi-decent tyres on the front and left the budgets on the back, it totally changed the way the car handled - and I lost the back end a few times under totally normal, everyday driving, sensible speeds.

The VTR/VTS/GTi is a torsion bar equipped french hatchback, so they're always tail happy. With good tyres on the back, and all 4 makes the same (so the tyres behave identically) it should be much more predictable.

In terms of pure handling the VTR/VTS/GTi chassis will be far superior to that of the Astra. In terms of stability and general safe and predictable understeer, the Astra it tops though.

Either way, bad luck on the knock, hope you're all OK!

There's nothing wrong with French hatchbacks....as long as its a 205 GTI (preferably the 1.6 ;) ) :D

If it's french it has to be a 309 GTi or a 205 GTi 1.9 mated with a 1.6 g'box  Not too great on the old fuel economy though

Nothing to do with the torsion bar, it would have the same handling characteristics with coil springs. The handling traits are down to the trailing arm suspension which allow large camber variations as the body rolls.

Ouch, nasty :(

Sorry to hear about your mishap but kudos to you for admitting you screwed up :)

No point in blaming anyone else. I blame myself as it was my fault, going a bit too hard in the wet and lost it. You won't learn if you push the blame elsewhere.

Anyways, going to try and sell it complete and I've got it advertised on a couple of Saxo owners clubs sites. What kind of money do you think I could get for it??? I know I could get more if I stripped it, but could do with a quick sale to part fund a new car.
Anyone any ideas???
