Lana Del Rey - Video Games

What do people think of this song?

She has a pretty stunning voice and sang it beautifully on Jools but it seems from a quick google that there are plenty aspersions being cast about the validity of her life story and that it's essentially bull**** dreamt up by her management company. Not that it necessarily matters if the music is good enough.

I'm lazy so I'll quote myself :p

Just having a listen to her album for the 1st time.

The song that sticks in my mind is Off To The Races.

It's a really good listen first time round.

Video Games was gash.

Born to Die is a better track.

She doesnt deserve anywhere near the amount of hype she is getting mind, not on the basis of this album, its very patchy.

Some of her album is good, the generally popular songs have been a bit embarassing. Born to die has some tragically terrible corney overused lines in it.

"lost but now I am found, blind but now I can see" type crap makes me utterly utterly cringe.

Her first album comes across better, more her, while the second album comes across as, overproduced, not bad, lots of it good but, meh, less original songs and more overdone producing additions that make it sound a bit more charty and mainstream.

I can't tell if the little girl voice she does sometimes is, disturbing, cringeworthy, hot or just suits the song.

Having now listened to the album, though I really like her voice in the singles, the album is a complete turd on the whole. Very disappointing.

Corny? I suppose you find Amazing Grace corny as well? As it's just a quotation from that song...

Lana Del Rey is captivating at first. She has that haunting, cinematic characteristic to her voice, which is refreshing at the moment. But it drags on a bit too much, especially on repeated listening to her album.

More disappointingly- I first thought that she would be the kind of singer that would blow everyone away at a live performance, spine tingling etc. But watching live videos of her on Youtube, she's really not as good at all, which is a shame.

Seriously, because its quoting another song, its NOT corney? Someone writes it, first time, its original, 58,000 people also use the line, then Del Ray does, it suddenly becomes profound again.

Actually yes, it's corney, it's a cliche, its used over and over again.

I really can't decide, she uses so many different "versions" of her voice, some are quite brilliant sounding, other "styles" she uses are frankly irritating.

I'm leaning towards 1/3rd to 1/2 of both albums being good or really good, and the rest being mostly crap.
