I want to buy a new laptop and like the look of the Toshiba Satellite L555-10R 17.3". It has a widescreen 1600x900 display and HDMI output supporting 1080p from and ATI HD4650 graphics card.
My question is this:

If I connect the laptop to a 1080p-capable TV with and HDMI cable, do I automatically get a 1920x1080 image on the TV using the Windows dual display 'clone' setting?
As the PC is 1600x 900 and the TV 1920x1080 this implies different setting for the devices and I'm not sure if this is how it works.
I downloaded ATI's 'Hydravision' and it didn't help.

Many thanks for info on this...

You can configure the HDMI output to give a different res from the desktop. However if you want to show bluray on the tv the built in screen will be dissabled because of HDCP for some reason....

Thank you for your reply.

It finally answered a question that none of the downloaded docs from Toshiba or ATI were clear on.
My main reason for connecting to a TV would be to display digital photos from the PC in as high a res as possible.
The blu-ray restriction wouldn't bother me, but I don't think the machine has a blu-ray drive in its standard spec.
