Laptop can load web page faster than desktop

As the title says, my friends laptop can load the same web site faster than his desktop can.
The desktop has a clean install of vista, 300GB sata HDD, 2gig of ram 3.2 processor, no programs worth installed,... theres more rubbish on the laptop.
ISP is Tiscali. Both connected wireless, signal strength good on both.
Why is the laptop faster, any ideas?

crap wireless drivers at a guess
or too much av on the desktop

install firefox with the adblock plus addon, then select the easylist subscription when it restarts

all website will load quicker, look better and use less bandwidth

Hi thanks for that advice, AV is nod32 on desktop, not sure whats on the laptop.

test them both with ethernet

wireless drivers can vary a lot from manufacturer to manufacturer
