Some companies specifically offer "gap insurance" to cover this which basically costs you extra but they give you what you paid for the item if it is destroyed. If your company doesnt offer gap insurance, you can try arguing the toss for a full refund. Generally a company would rather pay out a little extra than lose a customer.
If you can get a cash settlement, i personally would take it. You can get a much better machine second hand than if they replaced it for you. Especially if they will only offer current value.
Hope that helps.
hmmm, some of what you say concerns me. I want full original value (which i paid 16 months ago) and i dont want to have to fight for it! why cant these companies just do what we pay them for?? well actually thats a good point- i dont pay for the insurance. will this affect things?? i am a family member of the policy owner so surely that dosnt matter? argh i'm getting annoyed with this situation already!!!
