Laptop to TV display

This is quite a silly question, but better safe than sorry. My laptop had a DVI socket on it, if I buy a HDMI-DVI cable, can I display my laptop screen on my TV (which has a HDMI socket)? Or is the process more complicated than this?

It should work as long as the DVI socket is DVI-D or DVI-I rather than DVI-A (can't see why they would use DVI if it is analog though).

Na i think its digital, its got a picture of a digital step next to it, as opposed to an analogue wave.
