Large sum of money to invest

Look at all the truly rich people in the world. Whenever they talk about their wealth they say "oh, I may be worth billions, but actual liquid funds aren't very much at all", they tie them up in bonds, stocks (typically of their own company) and other investment vehicles. They'll keep a certain amount, maybe a few tens of thousands, as readily accessible liquid funds, but any more than that is a waste as liquid funds do not work for you at making more money.

erm bonds, stocks (assuming we're talking exchange traded equities) etc.. are liquid assets.....

Bzzt...wrong. The number 0 (the green number) on the roulette wheel tips the odds very much back in favour of the house. You don't think any house games actually have even odds do you - if so I have a bridge for sale/some magic beans (delete as appropriate) you may be intereseted in! :p

Actually I should point out that my post ref: sticking it on roulette was not meant to be a serious post......

However I perhpas ought to point out that the '0' has got naff all to do with it - if it was 0.5 chance of the ball landing on red it still wouldn't work.

Assume a casino with infinite cash, a fair roulette wheel with no zero & a punter with 200 grand - the punter will still go bust in the end.

In reality there are table limits so failure when trying the martingale method comes even quicker.

betfair casino has a no zero(green) roullete . 50/50 odds:p

I would say stick it in the bank and see what house prices are like in the new year and rent it out, or start a share portfolio.

Edit: pay off her house first maybe if its not already done.
