Hi Folks,

I currently have the system below:

Ryzen 5 2600 stock Wraith Prism cooler.
MSI Tomahawk Max 2 B450
16GB Ballistix Sport LT 3200mhz
Sapphire RX570 4GB
2x 512gb SSD
2x 1TB HDD
Seasonic Core Gold 500W Semi Modular 80+ Gold

Im looking to pop an RX 6600 in to it next month, but im considering a CPU as well, is there any real benifit going from my 2600 to say a newer R5 5500 or 5600?

Regards

Harware Unboxed did a 2600x/3600x/5600x comparison with a few different GPUs, you'll need to extrapolate a bit but it'll give you an idea.

Seems at 1080p id be better just getting the GPU.

I know, basically cost £169 for my upgrade, think there’s a slight up to 8% bottle neck, but at 1080p 165hz that’s negligible. Might throw a Ryzen 5600 in after Xmas to see me another couple years or so.

Quick update, a friend was selling a 5500 for £80, he was using it as a stop gap before a move to an intel system. As much as I would want a 5600 I couldnt pass up that price. Nice improvements, system is a lot snappier, and for my needs the FPS improvemnt is a lot better than I had thought. I am seeing improvements of up to 20-25% in most games and the 1% lows have improved, I think this is due in part to the better single core speed.
