Dunno if this is a GFX or Laptop question :)

I've got an HP HDX16-1005EA, which is running 179 nVidia drivers on the 9600M-GT. running Vista 64HP SP2.

I thought I'd go have a look see if there was an upgraded/newer driver as this is the original the Laptop was shipped with.

I found on nVidia's website the latest (186's or something) so downloaded and installed!..

All went fine for the first re-boot, but when I shut down Ultramon Crashed and the Laptop hung at the 'Shutting Down' screen, it just sat there for something like 30minutes when it finally shut down.

So I re-booted to see what the problem with Ultramon might have been, only for it to:

a) not initialise the sound
b) not initialise the USB's
c) not initialise the Fingerprint reader.

I logged in manually and it hung at the 'Welcome' screen. I waited for nearly 45 minutes before getting impatient and rebooting. The Same happened again!...

Now past midnight, I rebooted into Safe Mode and did a system restore back to the 179's...

It booted first time no problems, everything running!..:confused:

a) Anyone else running the latest nVidia drivers on a Vista 64HP SP2 system with a 9600M-GT (512Mb) graphics card and Ultramon??
b) Hows it running??..
c) have you had any problems??..
d) Had to roll back to a previous driver??...

I'm considdering trying the 190's Beta drivers I found on Guru3D!, but I'm a little scared they might FUBAR my system totally!!.. :(

Just a dumb question here matey, but are you sure you're downloading the Notebook drivers and not the normal desktop ones? I've got the same card in my Aspire 6935G.

Also, I don't know if this would apply to yourself, but on my Acer, when I download the latest drivers from nVidia, it asks to install updated drivers for the Hi-Def sound card or HDMI ones (I can never remember which), if you install those, the HDMI port tends to stop working properly. Might be worth not installing them unless you're sure they'll apply for your laptop.

Yep, They're the Mobile version, Never noticed anything about Hi-Def or HDMI...

I think I'll just stick with the current ones till HP release updated ones for the HDX laptops.. probly after Win7 hits the shelves!.

he wouldnt be able to install the desktop drivers without adding a modded inf file, so they must have been the notebook drivers
