Hi all,

I live in a shared flat with professionals. One of them is moving out and is taking his Tv, which we use in the sitting room, with him. No body really wants to buy one, but I have come up with a couple of ideas...

i) Rent one. Anyone know a company which rent's 32-40" HD LCD's/Plasmas in the Newcastle area for roughly 12 months?

ii) I buy one, they rent off me. I was thinking of getting a 32" Samsung (They're about £470) and charging the other 4 housemates £5 each a month for 12 months. Thus generating £240 for me, making me essentially get a cheap Telly.

What does everyone think? Ideas and/or thoughts appreciated...

Where you pay over a period of 12 months, most high street and online retailers have them for av equipment.

This causes an issue though. The Tv is then owned by 5 people. What if one leaves the house etc etc etc?!

They think you already paid in full for the tv and are renting it to them. ;)

Is money really that tight that you would charge people rent for a TV ?

Do you not like them or something

Or pick up a 29-32" CRT off the famous auction site for £30-40. Will give a much better SD (freeview) picture than an LCD, as long as you have room for it.

did that guy charge you to watch his TV ? :/
Either split the cost between you then sell it after 12months and split the money you get back, or stump up the cash and make an investment

TBH it's one thing if someone brings an old telly into the house but if you have to buy one for everyone it's only fair they chip in.

I used to rent one at Uni, cost us £20 p/m for what I think was a 26" tele. Can't remember the company that we used though, sorry :/

I wouldn't fancy buying an expensive television together as it's a pain when people move out!

Is there no friendship or trust in this house?

Just buy a NO SWEARING TV and let them use it. When you move out take it with you.

When I was a student we just chipped in like 20 quid each for a CRT TV and to be honest after watching it for 2 years, for 20 quid no one cared who kept it. It stayed in the house.

The less lazy option is whatever you buy, when you leave the house, turn it in to a cash generator type place that take 2nd hand stuff and share the money.

EHHH?! Friendship or trust have nothing to do with the issue at hand imo.

Go to highstreet store put in 50quid each and you could pick up a brand new large crt i expect or grab an oldie off ebay. For professionals you're damn cheap.

TBH, as people have already said you have 2 options. Either buy a TV yourself ( or ask if anyone else wants to ) and take it with you when you go, or all chip in for one and sell it when you need to.

That is cheap to ask for rent for the TV....
