Is it really worth paying out extra dosh for an extended warranty when purchasing an LCD TV?

They seem pretty steep almost to the point of not being worth it imo as surely if something like a TV is going to fail it will do so during the first year?

Any thoughts on this?

Depends on who you are buying it from.
Some places do free 5 year warranties on their tellies (panasonic are doing this on selected tellies) one does a free 5 year warranty on all the tellies they sell.
Richer sounds sell their warranties for 10% of the price of the set, I wouldn't pay any more than that TBH.

Former TV salesman's opinion.

i work for a large retail company and will say be careful of these free 5 year warranties, unless they are provided direct from manufacturer like panasonic or sonys 3 year allot of the time its worthless.

Further to what Grimley mentioned about certain shops offering free/10%, you could look at Domestic and General for getting a extended warranty, which will beat most stores extended warranty packages.

Also some manufacturers will allow you to buy a warranty from them.

I'm not going to go into EU Law and the SOGA/Consumer Law, save that for Martin Lewis!
