Went along to Silverstone today to watch the Le Mans series, think my ears have just about recovered, deafened mostly by the classic racers!

I suspect the 2 cars at the bottom were by some way the best sounding, the blue Matra is probably, just, the best sounding car EVER to my ears.

Was using a 500D with a 70-200mm f4/L lens

They indeed sounded absolutely glorious, all the classics did to be honest, but they certainly stood out, the Matra was also very very fast!

If I am correct, and I usually am (I see people getting hot under the collar

) that is a Ferrari 712 CanAm running the biggest race car engine Ferrari ever built, and it was still too slow!! Group 5/6, CanAm and Group C cars are my favourite racing cars of all, nothing comes close when it comes to the 'event' these cars provide. Matra V12, never heard a sweeter sounding car, simply gorgeous noise at full chat and I would imagine hearing that thing at full chat in the early 70's coming down the Mulsane at night must have been special. Last time I saw a 936 it finished the first lap in the catch fencing at Woodcoate!
