I sent off my passport application two weeks ago and a few days later they sent back a letter basically saying "You're a n00b, your photo's need to be taken again"... so I did that and sent them off the same day via Recorded Delivery.

Now, I leave Britain on 20th August (haven't booked flight tickets yet, though) and I'm seriously hoping it will be done by then, what do you think? Has anyone had one done recently?

I need it ASAP so I can send my visa application to the Chinese Embassy in London which takes 3-4 days. Damn me for leaving it all too late like this. Plus, the longer I leave it, the higher the flight prices increase!

When I renewed mine last year it came back after about 1 week, but I guess it varies for the time of year etc, and im guessing you didnt pay to have it checked if your photos werent good enough?

Well, I told my employer in China that I will leave on the 20th, although I'm not due 'til the 24th. I want to arrive 4 days early so that I can get used to my surroundings and basically hang about with the locals and practice some Chinese.

So, I don't have to, but a 4 day difference isn't much. I guess I could use it if I need to, though.

I did have it checked. Goes to show how reliable that service is. :)

Edit: Thanks Borris, that's only an extra £20 so I'll give them a call tomorrow and ask how long they expect it to take. If it's after this week, I'll pay the extra to have it here this week!

Passports and documentary services are REALLY busy this time of year.

Summer is a bad time to need a new passport, but you gotta get one when you have to I guess. My department is currently 3x more busy than usual!

Be nice to the passport monkeys!
