Leaders and Leadership

I am writing an essay on Leadership and I always get stuck on how to start these things. I want to say something like:

"Leaders have existed since the beginning of human civilization..."

But I need to reference something like that, and can't find anything

Can anyone help with the first line please?

"Everyone needs a leader...whether it be Hitler for the Naxis during WW2 or <whatever>..."


Obviously you can use better examples.
