*** League of Legends ***

Played this ages ago and never got into it. Was never a big fan of these DotA style games. Gonna give it another go now since it's come a long way since then!

It's not changed much tbh - there are more champions but other than that if I was disappointed with the game it's the lack of change it has had. That said multiple mastery and rune pages is one of the big things they have done.

If you set your trust account up I can pm you the password for mumble - most of the fun I find in this game is the community we have created on it :)

I think i suck at this lol
Everyone does at the start, it's a learning process. Especially since you start with few character choices (may not even have a character suited to your play style), you've got no runes (gives a few advantages) not used to what equipment to buy etc.

My first game a friend invited me to play with him, I chose poppy to play as and they owned me. I got 0 kills and several deaths even when staying near the turret because they had levelled up by then. The problem is you probably don't even know what equipment to start off with. Each character should have one 'Doran's' item that you should buy initially. These are Doran's ring, Doran's sword or Doran's shield and they are the best starting item because they offer 100 health and then the sword will also give lifesteal and damage (try this with DPS builds, in other words attack speed and damage based builds), the ring will offer ability power and mana regen in addition to the health (ideal for mages or anyone who is largely ability power based) and finally the shield is good for tanks, people who have large health and do the job of staying at the front of combat. The easy way to start a game equipment wise is to get these 2 items in this order
Doran's item (1 of the 3)
Boots (the first boots for 350g)
this gives you the speed to run away and chase people and boots are necessary, if you are a slow character then getting the second pair of boots may be necessary as soon as possible but if not they can be left to try and quickly go for more offensive items.

If you can answer 2 questions though, do you think you like the game and do you think you'd like to continue? If it's yes to both then don't worry if you suck initially as everyone does and you will get better. An easy tip is to vs the computer for practice (I suggest custom game rather than computer vs AI as other players will give you less chance to practice yourself by taking kills) and do this with every character who it is your first time playing. Also don't worry if you get thrashed a little. It happens. Sometimes you simply go into a lane where you're versing a character who is good against yours and that is never a good situation.
Like I said I'll do a 1v1 and give you all the necessary tips or just have you play with me some time so we can lane together. Because I play as Lux (a good complimentary character to almost anyone since she is a support character) I will be able to help you learn more easily by snaring annoying enemies and harassing them from range so we have easy ways to lower there health and gain an advantage.

Been playing Alistair and Gangplank mostly. Think melee is the way forward for me, I'll be up for a game at some point, I'd be on mumble now if the girlfriend wasn't blasting Greys anatomy about a meter away from me :)

I'll add you some time or you can add me, I tend to have me and my brother play the game on the same account so sometimes he may not realise it's you and play with you but I will.
I'm at my girlfriends for a till next week so I won't be playing much to be honest but I'll arrange a day for us to set up a match. I told my brother I won't be on but I'll email him and see if I can get him off and me on all day tomorrow and you can pop on whenever. I've never played as Alistair (hear he is good though) but Gangplank is a good character. Slightly under powered unless you know how to build him though. Basically just work on life steal, attack speed and critical damage because his gun move can do critical damage although being an ability.
An example of how I'd build gangplank (in order of purchasing equipment) is
1) Doran's sword
2) boots
3) Zeal (works into phantom dancer)
4) vampiric sceptre
5) infinity edge (buy the things that build into this of course but complete this item, buy the BF sword first though)
6) Phantom dancer
7) pick a better pair of boots
the zeal would offer a little more movement speed, critical and attack speed but before you complete the phantom dancer (which the zeal works into) you'd need damage so get the infinity edge. By the end those 2 items alone (phantom dancer and infinity edge) will offer 55% attack, 55% critical chance, 15% extra movement speed, 80 damage more. That gives you a good chance of getting critical hits, good movement and attack speed and with the infinity edge your criticals do more damage than usual too. You will get cheap life steal from the dorans sword and vampiric sceptre and movement speed from your shoes. That's an example of building a character well. You don't have to rush a single item as initially there is a lot of things you need and it's good to try and fill those gaps relatively quick. Then with the shoes, the phantom dancer and the infinity edge you can concentrate on any other items you want as there is 3 more slots. I'd recommend a little defence (say a guardian angel) but largely attack focused.

That's pretty much what I've been doing, he does become quite the beast with a bit of crit + lifesteal. What i need to learn is how to take on certain champions and when to push/withdraw. I'm getting there though ;)

If your already doing that then trust me, you don't suck. Took me a lot longer to get a hang of the best equipment choices, when to buy them etc. The kills and deaths will increase and decrease respectively as you get more experience. I'd recommend you possibly look into Sion if you like fighters too, namely because he's got pretty good skills and he's pretty cheap to buy with IP.

stunning enemy, good damage, ulti that offers further life steal and attack speed, a shield-come-bomb and health increasing attacks. If you buy a vampiric sceptre or dorans blade early on he'll have no issue keeping his enrage on permanently. Buy who you want of course though.

My advice from what I've learnt and I think I've become a much better player than I was when I first started. Some may be a bit more advance, some may be common sense but here it goes.

1) Don't over extend - by this I mean you have your tower and their tower, over extending is when you're closer to their tower. So for this what you have to do is only last hit minions, which you should be doing any way for gold. What you shouldn't do it be DPSing like a boss on the minions. If you push closer to their tower then there is a possibility of their tower hitting you, depending on what champions you're against they can pull you to the tower, stun you and then you die. Also if you're past the river be very careful if someone mentions SS or missing etc as they can come round and flank you and you're in a whole world of trouble.

2) Want to play a new champ you never played before? Mobafire.com - click on browse builds/guides and select your champ, select score filter and go! Read the guides and hopefully understand what the guides mean, sometimes they tell you how to maximize DPS. I was a rubbish Vlad and after reading the guide I'm an Ok Vlad.

3) Now there are two trains of thought on this one, if someone is low HP and near a tower do you go for the kill and possibly die and not get the kill? Some champs are great at tower diving, people like Vlad, Tryndamere etc. Recently when people have been tower diving the person I'm laning with I stun and route them and the tower does the work resulting in them dieing and the person on low hp surviving.

4) Farm as long as you can. Normally you only get 15 mins or so to farm - 20 mins best so make the most of this, get as much gold as possibly.

5) Get to know your characters strengths and weakness with your own play style. I'll give examples
Vladamir - Rubbish early game, if I'm mid and can get someone to half hp by the time I'm level 6 then I will kill them. At 6 he starts getting better and at level 9 he then becomes a beast.
Mordekaiser - Great early game harassing with his shield as the shield gives him health. Again can harass very well and at around 6 with his ulti up you can get a kill.
Amumu - I find he is a weird one. I play very defensive with him and let my lane partner harass. Once 6 I can use my ulti and route them so you're pretty much guaranteeing a kill.
Brand - This guy can nuke from the word go, has mana issues and long cool downs but in my opinion he is very strong early game if played well.
Nocturne - Great at harassing early game, he is a great ganking char once level 6. In my opinion can kind of fall off late game depending on how fed as in team fights he can go down quick untill built like a tank.

6) Going down a bit too quick? Look at the team and see if they're AD/AP and build defense according to their set up. Banshee is in my opinion the single greatest defensive item in the game. It blocks one harmful spell every 45 seconds.

7) As I've mentioned you an to lane as much as possibly. If you're against a good harassing team they can cut off your xp like no ones business. In my opinion and some would disagree until you're comfortable with your champ I'd say to get a HP regain item to start with. On Mordekaiser I get the 400 + gold 15hp regain I think it is and 1 hp pot. This enabled me to farm like a boss.

8) When the group fights start try and stick to your team. I mean you will still need gold and what not so if you're going to farm some mobs, literally farm them and get out of dodge. The amount of times I've seen people keep farming when the whole enemy team go missing and end up getting killed by them giving them the 5v4 advantage.

There are much more I can think of but work is getting a little busy. If you can't understand any of the above let me know and I'll try and re word it or make it more understandable.

Some people may disagree but the above turned me from a terribad feeder to an ok player.

Vlad is getting nerfed again :(

I'm gonna let you all in on a secret that I don't share often.

I laugh at the NMST thing and gladly come tank forum rage. But truth be told, I don't move to nerf hardly anything. The Live team makes proposals and I help guide them and approve changes (so yes, they're still my responsibility!), but I very rarely go "nerf this thing."

This is one time I'll be changing that approach.

Vlad, I've tried to avoid this - I really wanted to do minor nerfs, and just try to salvage you somehow. I truely have. But you keep being powerful in all levels of the game, and having very little counter-gameplay or interesting interactions, along with being negative attrition to the umpteenth power. You just crutch on "but my early game sucks! I'm fine!" but I'm on to you. I know those innocent eyes hide a true maniac.

Vlad will be nerfed, and this time, as dictated by me. I've handed the team their orders. They will show no mercy, and do what needs to be done. Though, I actually think he'll -still- be good.

Best bit of advice is when in doubt retreat! It is better to stay alive yourself than to play aggressively and maybe die.. If you die they get stronger making it easier for you to die again the next time as well

The game is quite simple really so once you know what the characters do the most important skills are situational awareness and positioning, most online players complain when they die saying they were ganked and that it wasn't their fault.. This is not true they were in the wrong place at the wrong time and had they been paying attention should never have been there in the first place

As for what first character to pick most people would say Ashe and she is a good pick although i feel she is a bit lacking in escape moves i would go for someone like tristana or ryze who are both very good, cheap characters who have escape moves for when you mess up :D

As it should be

Make sanguine pool his ult... it is one of the best moves in the game and makes him stupidly unkillable... nerf his ult and make it a normal move... adjust their cooldowns accordingly.. job done

Totally hate vlad

I disagree, I'm only 22 but I normally face roll people who play as Vlad, even when I'm in games with other level 30s - not sure on their ELO. I personally think he is fine. He is great at harassing, his pool is wicked I agree but if you don't go down the CD route it has a long CD so you can force him to use it early and then he dies. If Vlad is fed then yes he is amazing but then most champs are. Will be interesting to see what they do with him. Even if he was to have a mana bar that would make it harder to play as him although he does suck until level 9 as it is mana issues would make him suck even more. I like what you are suggesting though, I could live with that but if the pool was his ult I think it should last longer.

Look at Twitch - granted I didn't play back in the day but they nerfed him in to the ground. Now he is hardly used.

Think I'm going to buy Irelia tonight.
Getting a fair few champions I can play now :D

a well played vlad who knows how to lane is sick... easily one of the best champs in the game. there's a reason he's often banned/picked.

the biggest issue with vlad is his infinite sustainability, which is not particular fun to play against this ensures that he wins his lane 99% of the time (this is the reason why old school wriggles lantern got nerfed). low cd infinite heal is way to strong in laning and im pretty sure the incoming nerf is to address his sustainability. as it sounds like a pretty strong nerf, im guessing his q will heal a lot less when used on minions (or maybe even in general) or perhaps higher cd on later levels. ive also heard some people suggesting giving him mana, which will actually solve this issue but i dont think thats gonna happen.

old school twitch btw was OP as hell and not at all fun to play against. being a stealth character gave him a huge advantage and to top it off, he actually had an OP ulti which was easily capable of a penta. all he had to do was get fed (easy) and then in team fights, position himself along your back line and ulti your squishies and it was gg. he did get over nerfed though :p i think he got hit 5 patches in a row

Well I got Irelia, had a quick go against bots in my lunch and she is kind of cool :D

I know you guys are much better than me and the below isn't directed at you but I thought it was a good post about Vlad
For 1400 elo where "everyone understands game strategy and builds correct items" you must be really bad to be dominated by Vlad. Even with mres around 100-120, Vlad will deal so low damage you can safely ignore him. So, let's take this step by step.

I can easily last hit with my Nida's spear, spamming cougar abilities etc. I can last hit easily with Morgana's AoE. I can easily last hit with Malz''s nightmare thing (DoT that jumps). I can easily last hit with Katarina's Bouncing Blade, or Garen's Spin2Win. And I can go on and on... Farming easily isn't an argument you can use to say something is OP. Next?

Umm... So? There are tons more simple instant point & click spells... Try harder.

Except he has health to manage. And his pool takes 20% of his health - rather big amount, as health is MUCH MORE valuable than mana. Again, come up with something better.

So, you're talking about laning... Which again proves you have no idea what you're talking about. Laning = early game, and Vlad in early game is terribad. Hextech revolver? Okay, no big deal. Just pick up Lux or Cait, outrange him. Or take Malz, silence and outburst him. Or Annie, stun and out-nuke him. Or... you get the picture. His early game is horrible, he can't harass, but he gets harassed so easily.

Considering his AP ratios are mediocre to bad, no, he doesn't. Aside from his ult that buffs damage in teamfights, only machine he can become is a poke-machine. He pokes. He doesn't CC, he doesn't nuke, he doesn't save damsels in distress. Poking is all he does.

Umm, no. If you think pool is BEST escape spell in the entire game you never saw what Riftwalk does. Or Deceive. Or perhaps.. Ever had Ezreal jump over the wall and escape? Or Trynd? There are so MANY more better escapes..
And guess what? NONE of them cost 20% of your health!

Yes, you heard it here first time, pool is actually crappy escape compared to SO MANY MORE!

Shaco says hi. He does't even need to drop turret aggro since once he uses a clone he NEVER GETS turret aggro. OP, amirite? Or Mundo, he can forget turrets, since his ult will just heal through it. Seriously, your arguments are getting worse and worse...

Well... What of Jax then? He has much, much better offense and gains much better defense from stacking it. And he even doesn't have to lose health for his escape (jump)! Or another meaty caster, Swain... He can build pure offense and he'll still outheal and out-survive Vlad.

He does much damage? U srs? Have you ever felt burst stacked Riftwalks can deal? Or Malzahar's combo? THOSE are nukes, Vlad deals only pokes, inconsistent low damage. And again, for "1400 elo player that builds correct items", if you're receiving "huge" damage, you should learn what's MRes and what's it used for.

Man... your lack of knowledge makes me facedesk... HE. IS. NOT. STRONGEST. 1V1. CHAMP. Not by a long shot. He has no high damage, his damage is bad, moment you reach 100 MRes he'll be only tickling you. And pool ONLY defends from direct damage, DoTs still hurt him. DoT + pool = Vlad suicides.

Allow me to point out something you missed:

WHO ISN'T STRONG WHEN FED?! God... would you take a break and actually read what you're writing here? Or are you just so caught up in that "OP" illusion that you cannot actually use your brain and come up with a counter?

To sum it up, you just suffer from a l2p syndrome... MRes > Vlad's damage. DoTs > Vlad's pool. Heal debuffs (Katarina, MF and so many more) > Vlad's heals.
Brains and IQ > Vlad in general.
