Leaked: A X38 DDR2 mobo possibly under £100 (inc VAT)

heatpipe will be the cooling method, but won't extend to the SB because many ppl comment that it is not "thermally" necessary and is bad when they need to remove it for crazy overclocking using casade or sth. else.

Will there be any cooling on the South Bridge, or will it be left bare/naked? It looks like unless it was a small copper/aluminium heatsink or a heatpipe, then the 2nd pci-e port may not be able to accomodate some cards.

Why do mobo designers always put the 4 pin power connector right down near the backplate connections... its soooo annoying having to weave the damn thing round under the HSF to the back of the board and then trying to squeeze your hand down the smallest of spaces to plug the thing in...

Why not just have it near the big ATX power connector, or at least somewhere near the ram slots where its easily accessable.

Board is looking good tho :D

Simple laymans answer is that the whole idea of the extra power connector is to provide extra power, if this extra power is provided via the same tracks as the main ATX connector or by having to run long tracks to the where the power is required then you're sort of defeating the object of having the extra connector.

This board does look interesting and if you're looking for testers in the UK then I'd be interested although I've never really done any real testing in the past :)

That's the only negative thing I see about the board at present (The possible obstrution if heatink isn't small enough).

To me it looks very well laid out. At £100, I'm surprised at the inclusion of the LED display for error codes. Very useful.

Do you have any rough image/sample of what the mosfet heatsink will look like?

Enthusiasts actually is the reason why Asus can still rip us off and other companies just follow suit. It's ridiculous so many people change their boards after like 6 months whenever there's something "new" they've got to have it. A lot of people are going to dump their X38s when X48 is released to gain about 0.003Mhz and pay the premium for nothing. It's us creating it and Asus knows that better than anyone else.

Do JW make their own drivers? It would be nice to have proper working EAX 2 Emulation for once, the Realtek drivers don't do it right and everything sounds totally wrong.

Only really need LEDS for critical (board power) functions and perhaps DIMMS, too much and users can't have there own colour theme as the boards LEDS flood the case with too much colour.

Other then how it looks, perhaps *** LEDS could be some less bright ones, as they really stand out at present (in the pictures).

Why does it have so many red LEDS all over the board? Couldn't the vast majority be removed as you do have the 2 digit LED display which could be used to flag OK or problem codes.

If the red LEDS have to stay then an option but I've no idea how practical or feasible it would be would be to turn on/off the LEDs via either the BIOS or a jumper on the mobo. So if you have problems you enable them but for normal running they are all off.

It has already been mentioned about excessive use of the LEDS, and it looks like they will be removing some of them.

To me thinking about it now those LEDs look like they've been put on for testing purposes, doubt very much that they'll make it into full production.
