Learning to Drive - Advice?

I took my test after about 35 hours, didnt pass 1st time so booked another block of 10 hours to take my total up to 50 hours. That included the 2 x 2 hour bookings for my 2 tests (passed on 2nd attempt)

as for the instructors, most have a special introductory rate for the first 5 / 10 lessons or so. Use this, and see if you like the instructor. If you don't get on with them, try somewhere else. Once you find somebody you like, stick with them.

I believe the average is about 40 hours, so 20 weeks if you do 2 hours of lessons a week. Although this can be made quicker if you practice more i.e. your parents let you drive.

I did mine with bsm (student discount) and that was the only driving I did, I started in November and passed in April, that was passing my theory and test first time.

I did mine with the AA and you got a discount if you booked in bulk, can't remember the exact details but it's worth asking about.

The best advice I can give would be to point out that you start learning once you pass your test & the lessons never end.

Yeah, we went with the AA and got lessons in blocks of 12 which got you a 20% discount or something, or maybe 12 for the price of 10.

I got taught by a scouser called Dave who had done a few TV programs about being a driving instructor. When I was learning, he was working on a program about teaching all 6 of the Walton sextuplets to drive.

He was a good instructor, and quite good fun, as it goes. He made a point of teaching me to not get distracted by pointing out all the "dolly birds" as he called them.

My friend is currently learning with his girlfriend and mom! They've both been driving for over 5 years and are just teaching him the basics. Then he's gunna have ~4-5 hours with a proper instructor before his test.

And probably need (in the instructors opinion) the same again to un-learn all the crap those bloody women teach him! :p:D

If you want a decent instructor, there's a guy called Dave who's taught most of my year and the year above you. He's based in Crewe but teaches a load of people from the village now too. I'm sure I'll be able to get you his number if you wanna ask him about it, I don't know how much he charges though.

Oh and don't go for the quick one week pass courses, they're awful. Just look what happened to Em J in the year above, I don't even know how many crashes she's had now!
