Leeds or Sheffield where would you chose to live?

Like any citires certain parts of wakefield are terrible.

Certain parts of leeds are terrible. You cant say that Headingley is a dive just because Bell Isle is for example.
 
The areas to avoid are:

Eastmoor, Certain parts of the City

You want to be looking around the Lofthouse / Outwood/ Stanley / Newton Hill / Wrenthorpe areas for somewhere nice.

Alternatively further south Sandal is nice, but then you've got to commute through wakefield city centre to leeds. Lofthouse / Stanley is deal because you're on the North Side of Wakefield Commuting to the South of Leeds

I can drive to work for my Night shifts in 11 minutes. Oil doesnt even get warm in that time :D

Leeds is a brilliant city. I live in Chapel Allerton, it's lovely round here, if you have a car you can get down to where you'd be working in around 15 minutes (once you know the right roads to take).

Definitely Leeds out of the choices.

All i'm saying is Wakefield is the arse end of nowhere, it's a horrible town. The night life there is basically a bunch of chain pubs running down westgate that you need to wear a white shirt and shoes to get in, and once you get in you stab each other with broken glasses. The two most important buildings in the town are the theatre, which hasn't had a show in 20 years and the frigging prison. The only noticeable export was the videogame Worms.
 
Just wondering why people have (mostly) gone for Leeds instead of Sheffield? I've lived in Sheffield all my life, and have never actually been to Leeds - So I'm not going to try telling people they are wrong :p. I'd just like to know what has helped you make that decision?

who cares how crap wakefield city centre is when Leeds city centre is just the same length bus ride away ?

you're talking specificly about wakefield town centre, i'm suggesting he moves outside of leeds city centre to get cheaper housing, within the wakefield council area, not buying a flat in wakefield city centre.

You live in Sheffield and you've never been to Leeds? Wow.

Both cities have their plus points. Both are a good night out, Leeds has the better shopping, Sheffield is better to drive around (imo).

Not much in it though.
 
I prefer the shopping in leeds, and the night life too. Leeds city centre is massive and theres something for everybody.

Its much better for job oppertunities too. I found it much easier to get a job in leeds than i did in sheffield.

After finishing uni, I signed up with Graduates South Yorkshire (based in Leeds) and still get weekly e-mails from there re what jobs are suited to me. There are seldom many in the Leeds area. But I did manage to find a graduate (mobile) software development job in Sheffield within around a month of finishing uni (which i thought was rather good!)

Of course, i've had no experience job hunting specifically in Leeds!

If you're a trendy little so and so who thinks they're all that and more, then go for Leeds.

If you're a decent, salt of the earth kinda chap then go for Sheffield.


Or you know..... just go for Sheffield 'cause it's better :D
 
Never been to Sheffield, but as someone who lived in Cheltenham for the best part of 17 years I'd recommend that if you like that area Leeds has plenty of nice areas. (for comparison)

When I went to Leeds a few years ago I actually thought the Centre was really rather nice, they have clearly spent some money brightening up the area.

There's not much difference between them, but I felt Sheffield was safer, more relaxed and a better place to live. I really enjoyed the easy access to the peak district in Sheffield also.

This really. I lived in Leeds for 3 years and Sheffield the rest of my life.
