Left hand drive cars

Only once I nearly punched the door card when changing gear, strangely after a few years of ownership when I was tired and stressed one day :)

I learned to drive in Europe in a LHD car, yet I've never punched the doorcard when I bought a RHD in the UK. But when I went back to driving LHD this Christmas the doorcard has seen quite a few punches even though I've driven LHD for 3 years and RHD for only half a year. :D

As for driving on the "other side" (mind you for me the other side was coming in the UK) I just got in the car, drove off, realised I'm an inch far from the kerb after about 200metres, then learned to "align" myself properly and that was it. :)

For the overtaking bit it helps if you sit a bit more behind so you can see around, but for this you need a reasonably powerful motor so that you can actually overtake something...

I found LHD great to drive. In fact if you're right handed it feels better to change gear with the right hand, more natural.

Reminds me of the last Seat Ibiza I hired in Spain, I loved the gearchange, and was impressed by its "feel"

On my return to the UK, I tried a friends RHD Ibiza & hated it.

I'd never given a thought to being right handed, which I am, I guess thats why it felt so good....

So I got a lift to North Wales to pick the car up (from Derby).

It's great! Left hand drive isn't that bad at all. Only minor thing is when checking the right hand side blindspot when going to overtake on the motorway is harder due to having to look "through" the car, if you know what I mean?

I might use this car myself instead of my super thirsty Forester turbo. (it's supposed to be for my GF) :)

On the blindspot note, I find adjusting the passenger mirror further out than you normally would helps a lot. It's the first thing I do when I get out of the Chunnel.
