So I booked some cheap air tickets but it turns out that the web company (Cheapoair) sucks badly...

But I don't think the payment has gone through on my card (its in USD), its still pending with the bank and Cheapoair tried to call me at 2AM last night! I tried calling back but sat on hold for 55 minutes before the line died.

So it seems they can't take my money until I somehow authorize the transcation...

Is it legal for me to not authorize it? Even, just forget about it and book through someone else?

They only have one contact number which I have rung 3 times. Was on hold for 20, 30 and 55 minutes respectively. I gave up the first 2 times.

If you don't 110% need the tickets and can get the same elsewhere speak to the bank and advise then to decline the payment.

If the company kicks up a stink you were on hold for 20, 30 and 55 minutes I think shows that you've tried to contact them to sort the issue already. If they called you at 2am tho where are they based?

There are a few possibilities here.

First of all your bank may have blocked the payment as it was US$ and you're in the UK (I assume) - this would have been done by an automated anti fraud system. Unless you call to confirm that you want the payment to go through, it wont.

Another possibility is that even though the payment is pending they are unable to access the funds for some reason (this happens more often than you'd imagine) and would require a transaction authorisation number which you can find form your bank. Though obviously if you don't want the payment to go through then don't provide this.

With regards to getting your pending money back you have another few options. First of all, all failed transactions - such as those where the company didn't get the authorisation number for some reason - will roll back into your account within 10 days. The only way your bank can get it back sooner (disregarding cases of disputes and fraud) is with a fax from the company which gives details of the transaction, your name, last 4 digits of card and amount, along with a statement form the company that they have no intention of taking the funds - not going to happen if you can't get in touch.

Either way, you need to call your bank to see what's going on and what action you need to take.

Well of course they're not going to answer the phone if they're based in America and you were phoning in the UK morning. Phone back in the UK afternoon.

Oh no, don't worry, I'm also currently in America at the moment :D

I'll speak to my bank again to see whats pending and hopefully I can decline their asses.
