LEGO Marvel Avenger free roam question...

Been playing for a while now, completed the first Story line but cant seem to free roam Manhattan...

I can get there, but cant seem to change character, when I press Y it just cycles character and holding it down doesn't do anything.

Am I missing something massively noobish or does it take a while to unlock free-roam ?

Not sure of my memory here, but I think to change characters (rather than just swapping between the two you have selected) you have to go to particular points on the map. Can't remember what the icon is for them though.

Ah that's a bit crap, was better to be able to switch on the fly like the old LEGO marvel superheroes...

When I played Lego marvel a couple of years ago, you had to finish all the main missions before it would allow you to bring up the character wheel with every one on it. Although this is opposite what the guy above said. Maybe I'm thinking of Lego lord of the rings I've played quite a few and they tend to blur into one.

in Lego Marvel superheros you can change on free roam without any issues.

I have Lego Avengers for the 360 and you cant change character without using certain points around the map, I liked the ability to change when you wanted too for certain missions\quests.

I have completed all 15 levels on story mode and going back through to get the red bricks etc

It's a bug, we had it on PS3. Let me find how we solved it, brb.

Ok, you need to use one of the Sheild terminals to change character and then once you have done that holding Y will allow you to switch on the fly.
