Lending money to friends.

I have a friend and we always lend each other money. £40 here, £50 there, especially at the end of terms where money become a bit tight. But he always pays me back, and i always pay him back.

Lending money to friends is good as long as you know you'll get it back.

Simple. Never lend anyone any money that you are not prepared to never see again. Just because they are a "friend" doesn't mean they will repay you.

EDIT: and above statement about it ruining friendships.

Thats the question for me, I'd only be happy lending a mate money if I were prepared to write it off rather than drive a wedge between us.

I never lend money to friends anymore. I think I'm owed about £800 by one friends, it just slowly amounts up until you realise you've been taken for a ride.

The question i want to ask, is when you got to say....£700, why did you then give out a further £100?

Never lend a friend money or a book, always give it to them. If they pay it back or hand the book back, great.

If you can not afford to lose it, dont lend it. Friendship is worth more.

I once lent my best friend about £100 and he repaid me in full within a few days. I trust him implicitly however, so I had no issue doing it. It's not something I would make a habit of, but he was in a pretty tight spot. A friend in need and all that...

very simple : DONT LEND MONEY TO FRIENDS

thats my rule from experience, it has the potential to ruin friendships

edit:

doesn't mean i wouldnt lend a good mate £10 if need be. just not large amounts.

he speaks the truth. i lent £500 to my uber christan house mate, id known him for 4 years previous and you know the type, no sex before marriage and all that, real devout, real faithful. moved out of the house, still owes me £270, has made NO attempt to pay it despite repeated messages letters and e-mails over the last 4 years.

if you dont get a call by this evening - give him a call. say you really need it and it aint a joke.

I went to see him, apparently he's going to borrow £20 off someone tonight to pay me back.

I said to him "I have no cash mate and I need this £20" - he was pretty nervous and struggled to get his words out.

Problem is, I can't get hold of him on the phone cus his phone has been barred - not paid his bills. Only way I can remind him is by going to his house to see him.

I'll leave it tomorrow, hopefully he brings it to my house. Otherwise I'll go and see him again Thursday.

haha yeah - took my brother a year to pay me back £600 he "lent" if thats a word :S

only 1 guy I will happily part my money to

In theory my bro still owes me over £600... :( I've had to write it off as he has another sprog on the way, but I made it clear to him that I will never give him financial assistance of any sort in the future. He seemed a bit hurt but then it's his own fault.

I would only lend a reasonable amount (eg £20) to one of my friends who I know like the back of my hand. Other than her and my family (we borrow smallish amounts off each other all the time) I only ever lend money to my housemate, but usually in the form of taxi money etc. and he does the same for me when i need some.

But generally don't lend money to anyone, it makes you sound really stingy for a bit when you always say no, but the true friends won't be bothered and only the friends you don't really need will have problems with it.

Never do it, I learnt that this at the weekend. 40 quid because "they hadn't been paid" and now its oh didn't realize i owed you and will have to wait till the end of the month despite me now being in my overdraft. Makes you feel like the bad guy bringing it up asking for it as well.

Bet she will still be going on the **** every week as well.

Only lend it to people who I trust and see all the time. Not to people that I dont see often or dont know that well.

I think its time to make a few calls actually. Got a few friends that owe me money from the weekend.

£10 owed from a mate who wanted a couple more pints before going home after work, and couldnt be bothered going to the bank.

£10 left from the money I lent a friend untill she got paid at the end of the month.

£35 from a friend that I paid for a Man Utd ticket, but we did'nt end up getting them in the end.

Finally £20 from my nephew who borrowed it because he again wanted a couple more pints and was skint at the time :p

That's quite a bit of money for one weekend.

I've lent someone I had only seen 2 times £10 once. Got it back the next time we were out. I was really drunk and had completely forgotten about it, but they stopped off at an atm and withdrew it without me even asking. I was pleasantly surprised. :)

I lend the money to good friends and it will always be paid back unless I tie a rope to their front door to my car's towbar and drive off...

It was over last weekend apart from the £35 I paid for the ticket, that was around a week ago. Shall be getting it back over the weekend when he comes from uni. The other cash, I shall be getting shortly too. Could'nt be bothered debt collection today after work, weather was crappy :p
