Hi,

Does anybody have experience of lenses that range between 18-125ish?

I think I have persuaded myself not to get a 18-200 or 28-300 range lens now as I don't think they will be sharp enough. So I am thinking of getting somthing like the Canon 28-105, Sigma 18-125, Canon 28-135 or somthing around those lines if people think there is a better lens for the money. I will buy anouther to take me upto 300mm at somepoint.

I really only want to spend upto £200 tops, I have seen the canon 28-135 IS for about £220, but I have not read good things.

It seems every lens I look at there is always someone saying how bad it is :(

I just want a good lens to take on holiday with me that will give sharp results. That's all!

Thanks in advance :)

Is that the IS variant? It looks good, is there any post sharpening done to that? I have read it's not so good for landscapes. On the other side it is very good for indoors/museum type shots.

The lens will be on a 400D btw

What you need to consider with the reviews is relativity. The kit lens that comes with Canon's cameras is universally regarded as terrible. When compared with other available lenses such as the L series this is true. However, when you compare the lens against compacts and such it's considerably better.

If you just want holiday snaps and have no experience of super high quality lenses the ones you are looking at should be suitable. Consider that the reviewers may have been comparing them to lenses costing over twice as much.

This is the problem I find. No reviews state what they are comparing it to, and it does get frustrating. The only way is to buy one I guess and if I don't like it sell it and try anouther!
