Hi all,

I'm new to photography, having only picked up a D3100 last weekend with the standard 18-55mm kit lense.

I'll be going to the states for 3 weeks quite soon for our honeymoon, and obviously will have access to some potential discounts either through the airport or whilst over there, so might be tempted to pick up an additional lense... (or order in advance of course).

We'll be doing Vegas > San Diego > LA > San Fran > NYC so I'm likely to be taking plenty of landscapes/buildings/portraits.

Bearing in mind what I already have, and not planning to spend loads at this stage, which lense would you reccommend to get the best out of my camera and my surroundings? I guess I'm looking for a decent all rounder rather than something really specific for a particular type of shot.

Whilst I'm asking, anything else I should pick up? I've already grabbed myself a Tuff-Luv case and Sandisk extreme 32gb SD card already.

Thanks in advance,

Grant

Knowing nothing about Nikon there is very little I can recommend off the top of my head.

Assuming a crop sensor body the 55mm end will be ideal for portraits (eqiv 85mm)

However it will also affect your wider shots taking you down to 28mm at the widest.

So perhaps aim for some kind of 10-22 or thereabouts?

Picking up a fast prime like a 35 or 50 mm is the safest bet. You're new to photography so get some use out of the kit lens.
