Lets make a list of over-rated players

Frank Lampard
Darren Bent
Stewart Downing

?

Frank Lampard is the single most reliable attacking central midfielder, no one, but no one has matched his year on year goal scoring record, this is the first season he's on course for sub 20 goals for Chelsea and he's missed half of it and Chelsea got rubbish while he was injured.

Bent is THE most consistant English striker across the last 6-7 years, fact.

Downing is pretty rubbish, same way Milner is, just the guy random pundits then fans decide is having a great season, Fletcher, Song, Denilson, Diaby, Carrick, Anderson, etc, etc.

Frank Lampard
John Terry
Gareth Barry
James Milner

Milner is over rated, his supposedly just fantastic season was apparently all in central midfield and stats wise was brilliant, despite I believe 7 goals, of which at least a couple were penalties, without many assists. INcredibly average, if not even very good season and yet people decided he was brilliant.

Terry, look how rubbish Chelsea are, look how many goals they've conceded still, Terry is a brilliant defender, hateful man, mouthy and spiteful, but a great defender. Barry, inept at every level, average passer, awful defender, sometimes great cross, very hard worker.

Stephen Ireland and Ibrahimovic.

Ibra's kind of the opposite of Kaka, some players seem to excel in the Champs league where people see 3 games of a 50 game long season and think they are the bestest player ever.... see Kaka for that.

Others like Ibra seem to be pretty brilliant week in week out, but fluff their big games on TV for the rest of the world and thereby get seen as over rated. Goal scoring record, his "failed" year at Barca was still fantastic.

Ibra

36 starts, 22 goals, 11 assists, league alone Serie A 25 starts, 14 goals 11 assists.

His "failed" year at Barca 23 starts, 16 goals, 7 assists in the league, a goal or an assist for every game he started in the league. He's anything but over rated, largely as most English people tend to regard him as a flop.

The facts say that you're wrong. Great player in the Champions League but PL teams have learnt how to deal with him.

So because a high % of his goals come from headers, that means he's good in the air? It couldn't simply be that because of his height he gets a lot of opportunities to score with his head?

Crouch has a sponge head. His heading ability is very poor but his size means he's going to get so many chances in the air that he will score more than his fair share of headed goals.

If he had some pace/power or had the aerial ability of a Shearer, he'd be an excellent player because his technical ability is 2nd to none. Without that though, he's a very good player but nothing more.

Indeed 14 goals and 11 assists at AC Milan this season so far.

However as we know goals, even with a forward, doesn't tell the whole story. Arshavin has plenty this year and is almost a freak for it as he for the most part does little else, and frequently gets things wrong. I think, particularly English people, don't see a player running about and assume he must be lazy or over rated.

However it should be said in your Barca 'failed' year example, Villa this season has virtually identical stats (p25 g17 a7), Eto got 30 the year before. I think who leads the line scores a lot of goals, irrespective of who that may be.

Edit - Re Crouch - could it be he does better in Europe because he's significantly taller than them? With our love of fast physical players, who therefore tend to be tall is he advantaged when playing e.g. French/Spanish teams who will be smaller.

Over-rated:

No idea really....Mark Van Bommel is just a clutz everytime I see him on tv.

'The Arsene Wenger refuses to see is crap list:

Arshavin -ish, Diaby, Denilson, Eboue, Clichy, Almunia.
