Anybody got a letter from a King of England, I have one passed down from my grandfather to my father to me, amazing seeing a letter from 1945 signed by the King himself in ink thanking my grand father for his long service abroad in the middle east and asia and his years as POW in Japan.

I will get it scanned soon.

get it covered properly and put it somewhere very safe, that is an excellent piece to pass down through the family :]

I will, I am thinking of getting it framed with his medals, not seen the letter for years, its not in my hands yet.

That's pretty awesome

I've got photos of my grandad with the Queen receiving his CBE, but don't know about any letters.

I would like to have a look at that. :)

I will get hold of it this week, my grandma still gets his war pension, he did in 92 from gangrene, he had been beaten badly as a POW then went to work down the mines when he was released from the army, the stories he told me about him being moved in tanker ships in convoy and hearing allied planes flying over bombing the convoy.

He told my mum about his time but would never tell my dad (his son)

I was up my grandmas today looking through some of my granddads letters, couldn’t find the letter from the king but did find his record of post, he was in India, Palestine, then he went over to Asia and he was based in Singapore where he was stationed he was classed as missing for a few days then confirmed as a POW, I think it said he was a POW from 1941-45 when allied forces rescued him

Also read through a lot of FEPOW letters dated 88-89, a lot of great stories to read.

keep it out of light as it will damage the ink/paper. It's a great pass em down family thing, keep it going.

Yeah, I will look after it all, its been kept safe at my grandmas and she doesn’t really like talking about it and neither does my dad, my granddad wouldn’t tell him anything from it.

Nah scan and save it at a really high quality. It will live forever that way. A one off scan should be fine, then you can put it away somewhere dark and dry for safe keeping.

Might be a good idea to seal it in a plastic clear bag (I guess you must be able to get "inert" bags) to protect it incase there's damp or a leak etc.

Ive got several from the RSM of 22SAS ;) addressed to my Father

Going back to Hereford later on in the year
