Lexus clutch judder

I have a Lexus IS200SE, it always used to judder in 1st gear, also the engine seemed to scream when driving around because I had to use lots of revs to get it to feel like it had any torque (felt to me like the car was too heavy and the engine underpowered). Anyway, I asked dealer to take a look under warranty, they looked at clutch performance and said there was no problem at all and it can't be adjusted coz its hydraulic, but when I drive it now, it's a lot better (gearbox and pedals are stiffer and much, much less judder).

So I told the dealer, its much better now, now it just feels like it wants to judder and judders a little but seems to be holding back. Again, the dealer looked at it and claimed there was nothing wrong. But the gear changes are pretty much spot on now, and it feels like it has more torque also and the engine is no longer 'screaming' with revs, seems pretty silent in fact.

But, it seems when the chasis is cold, I get clutch judder but when it wams up it doesn't. What on earth could be causing this?

Its a loooong time since i've worked on cars and I am not familiar with you Lexus but clutch judder is usually caused by either a warped clutch plate or oil(or clutch fluid) on the plate.

The lack of power and engine screaming is probably the clutch slipping

If the pedal was stiffer they may have bled the hydraulic clutch, if it needed bled why? do you have a leak at the clutch slave cylinder?

That might cause the prob but really I am guessing without seeing the car.

Ask to speak to the mechanic who worked on your car and ask what he has done so far.

Remember to stress to the dealer you have reported the fault and wont be fobbed off.

Good Luck

Thx for the pointers :)

Hi,

Over the weekend, I sprayed some thin lacquer on the alloys and the problem has gone. Could it be the brakes sticking? as I think I sprayed the brakes slightly also?

Cleaning the MAF sensor fixed my clutch judder. I have a 2005 IS250 with 130k miles that has juddered when cold for the last two years. Seeing this idea on another forum, I gave it a try and it's like a new car. No more judder, and much smoother and more powerful. I don't know why this worked but I guess a dirty sensor will result in an incorrect fuel/air mix and rough running.
