LG 50" PK590 - first impressions.

Hmm, cheers for the info Kidloco.

I really like the sound of the V20, but my problem is that I cant find anywhere in my area that sells it, or has it on display; everyone has the G20 and VT20 only. Kinda not sure on buying something that I have not seen in the flesh, so to speak.

There seems to be a lot of buzz about this particular LG though, hence my asking.

Cheers for your help!

Same problem here (N.Ireland) cant find it in stock never mind on display.

As for the Sony cant even settle on a model :) I own a 40" Sony LCD so was hoping to go for something bigger only problem is 46" doesnt seem that and then you have to jump up to 52" and the price to match.

Ditto. However the amount of TV you get for the money with the LG is soooo tempting.

Couldnt agree more nor can the people reviewing this TV. I guess the only thing put me off slightly was seeing it in the shop beside a panny and a very expensive samsung .... and it didnt seem as good. I have to keep telling myself its a cert the settings have not been setup correctly.

@mark

I do fancy the 50" size though the PK350 rather than the PF590 would suit me better as I can get away fine with 2 HDMI connections and have zero use for Freeview HD . I think Im correct in saying thats the only real diff between these two models (apart from price) ?

The picture on the V20 is pretty much the same as the G20 all be it with darker blacks and more depth to the image. I found the G20 to be head and shoulders above the PK590. So if you like the picture on the G20 you will love it on the V20. Other than that the only differences are the bezel, which is a rather nice brushed aliminum rather than black and the wi-fi dongle.

Another one to consider may be the LG PK990, I found it had a nicer image that the 590 but it is more expensive.

I am this ...' ' close to buying this TV in it's 60' flavour. Can get it for £999 on a trade in. I'm not a massive enthusiast and coming from a 4 year old 32', I think I'm in for a treat :p

Where can you get it for this price? :)

I just got the 50pk760. It's my first plasma.

I'm finding the picture can be a bit grainy, via sky hd and sd, also on the ps3.

When I come up real close to the screen it looks like mosquito noise.

Is this a characteristic of plasmas, or should the image be smooth?

hey w3bbo.. snap! I got the same TV recently for about £630 from a big online shop.. very impressed although i didn't do ANYTHING about run in.. bit worried about that but I was in the middle of moving house and I just couldn't be bothered.

not noticed any image retention to speak of and I totally agree on the stand, dust magnet!

HD content looks good, gaming is ace.. very happy.

the only thing that bugs me is there's no headphone jack on it anywhere for me to plug in my pretty simple 2.1 speakers. They did me fine with my old toshiba tv as a sort of hyped up but not extreme audio setup. So I'm stuck with the stock speakers for the time being which is a pain.

Other than that i'm very very happy!

Get a dedicated hdmi capable setup mate. It's such an improvement over the stock speakers.

I wouldn't worry too much about bedding the tv in. I only did it coz it's what the experts recommend. I never did it with my old panny and it's still going strong!

Mine is a little grainy up close <1 metre but then I sit apx 4 or 5 metres away for viewing so it doesn't affect me. At this distance the picture is perfect.

Ive had my 50pk590 up and running for just over six months and have been very happy with it. I replaced a Panasonic TX-P42G10 for this set and must say I find the LG has a more vivid picture but the speaker quality isn't up to much (OK for general progs) I run mine through a LG ht805 surround system.

Well w3bbo I bit the bullet and bought a PK590 along with a Humax Freesat HD box and I know everybody says it but Im completely blown away with the picture :D Straight out the box (still to have a mess about) and digi box setup into BBC One HD and jaw hit the floor :) No doubt about it this set has to be best bang for buck out there at the minute.

Hey guys, i just gone ahead and brought one of these from online.

Now this would be my first plasma, coming from a 4 year old LCD samsung.

What do i need to know about looking after it?

I have already picked up on running the set in what does that involve?

Can anyone post some settings for this for when i first get it

Appreciate it guys

Ive never set up or ran in any plasma and ive never had any bother with screen burn or the like, as soon as I get my set, ill bump it up to what looks best, and game on it.

People are far too sensitive about running in plasmas imo.
