HDMI is just an interface really, offering support of a digital signal (just like DVI would ) but also transferring sound over the single cable. Having HDMI is a good indication a screen is likely to be HD compliant, but you really need to consider also:
- does the screen support a high enough res for 1080i/p content? ie is the res over 1920 x 1080, in this case with the L245WP it does!
- does the digital interface (in this case HDMI) support HDCP certification needed to play encrypted HD content. you'd need to check with this model, no mention of HDCP on their UK spec page
