Hi all,

I purchased this TV about 6 years ago so well out of warranty now, but the problem is a little strange. I think the freeview HD digital tuner inside has died. It randomly lost signal on all of its channels the other day, then they came back briefly, then I did an auto tune to try and fix it, but it won't detect any channels now.

I've tested another TV on the same aerial and it's fine. The LG's picture is still fine too because I've got an analogue signal channel I can manually tune in and the picture comes through ok.

Does anyone have any ideas? My research hasn't gotten me very far. Some people suggesting it's probably the main board on the TV and to put that in the oven to reset the solder connections. I've not tried anything on the HDMI ports yet, so I'll hook up something there to test later.

Any help much appreciated.

That's my main plan at the moment. I just need to check the HDMI ports work still otherwise it's a bigger problem.

The various boards for most plasmas are all over eBay, rather than buy a separate freeview box I would open it and look at the numbers on the tuner board and get another one. If the rest of the tv appears to work ok it's bound to fix it...

Cheers Jez, I'll take a look at that option too. I really would rather not have a separate box but it's not a deal breaker.

Unless you really like 6 year old EPG/inbuilt tuner set-up's, then replacing the full main board seems like the wrong way to go. Buy a decent STB and marvel at how far we've progressed since 2010.

Cheers Avalon, what counts as a decent set top box nowadays? I had a quick look on Amazon but there weren't any brands I really recognised and quite a range of prices. With everyone going in-built to new TVs I guess the standalone box market is quite small.

As our Panasonic GT50 (software issue) has a problem with the EPG no longer updating we acquired one of these....

Might not be the cheapest kit available but we are most impressed with what it offered over the relatively basic functionality of our TV.
