LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Tearing has honestly never bothered me since I got used to it after the untimely death of my Iiyama CRT many moons ago.

Yes Freesync would/will be nice, but I'm getting too old to care very much about twitch style gaming now. Of course if it comes in a package anywhere near the price of Asus' latest QuadHD Gsync cash cow, I'll be ignoring it.

Looking forward to my new AOC Q2770PQU arriving this week though!

Some games are far worse for tearing than others i.e. wolfenstein is bloody awful unless I force vsync and triple buffering through CCC, where as others like Tomb raider is very subtle.

According to AMD, freesync monitors shouldn't be any more expensive than what the monitor without freesync would cost.... Nvidia always love to charge a premium for their stuff :(

Looks like a nice monitor that finguz, hope you get a good one :)

Shenanigans may have come to an end as of today!

2 things.

1: I had a reply from an LG Germany rep called Heinz Dieter in a reply on my reddit post, he said:

Dear Robbie Khan ?

This is LG Germany and my name is Heinz Dieter Speidel. I have heard about your problem by today first time, and I am really very sorry what happend to you. We really apologize and I will help you immideately.
Please forward me your shipping adress to:
xyz@lg and your problems will be solved.

2: I've also got a shipping confirmation email from the retailer saying the repaired monitor is on its way. Now I don't know if by repaired they mean replaced or just repaired but I'll know shortly.
I also wonder what LG Germany are about to do.

Fingers crossed!

Supreme news chaps! I don't want to jump the gun just yet but this seems very promising.

So the retailer has shipped my monitor now and it's on the way back to me.

The LG rep from Germany has emailed me back just now with more details. The reason for all the delays is because they didn't expect the level of demand for this monitor and basically were understocked all over in the first batch. They now have plenty of stock apparently. No mention of backlight issues though. This is also why service centres did not receive any stock.

Anyway, he said he's sending me a new monitor from their German warehouse which he will personally examine and I should get it by end of next week.

So it seems I will have 2x 34UM95-P...

As exciting as that sounds I think all the effort I've had to put in and the time I've spent and the money I've spent getting the £315 29EB93 it all evens out now and if this is the case then I will be happy although still a bit miffed that it took all this to get to this stage!

My case got sent to him from a director at LG, as before I don't know if this originated from my email to the UK CEO or a German source forwarded it on internally but it seems to have filtered (although slowly) through correct channels so at least that is one positive thing :)

The thought had crossed my mind but it is going to be high effort getting it all set up and I''d need a new monitor arm! Ain't nobody got time for that :p

I'll definitely be selling the 29EB93 in the MM I think and decide what to do with one of the UM95s.

Glad to hear LG have sorted you out now I thought they would eventually........... but I know its been a slog the least they could do is give you the freebie so alls good in the end.

I think most of these 34" UM65/UM95 are good out of the box as its based on a decent panel but the IPS glow is sometimes mistaken as backlight bleed & a few do have backlight bleed like yours as well but most appear ok just the odd 1 or 2 slip through QA I guess but for sure the aftersales service you got from LG could have been much better!

You misspelt 29" ;)

Agreed! At first mine was just IPS glow which I'm used to and it was no different to my 27" Dell but couple weeks in bleed set in and it was telltale as you could see it overpower the orange IPS glow :S

At least now it's all sorted! Well.... Pending my own inspection when it gets back :p

Hello chaps,

So if I were to order one from Overclockers right now, would they be part of a purported 'new batch'?

I start my new job on the 29th, so pining to buy and build my new rig before then – and don't have a monitor to tide me over till this backlight bleed issue is formally resolved...

No harm in a bit of QC russian roulette and faith in OC after-sales support in case there is an issue?
