Hey guys,

Quick question: Is LGA 1156 a thing of the past? I've been asked to build a budget PC for a friend. The cheapest Intel "Core" CPUs are the i3 530 and 540, which are socket 1156 -- but I don't see any LGA 1156 motherboards (at least on OcUK).

I've only kept half an eye on hardware since I built my machine over a year ago, but I'm surprised to see that 1156 has disappeared already. Do y'all think I should be looking at AMD instead, maybe? (An Athlon II X2 should be capable enough for this machine.)

Cheers,
Simon

1156/lynnfield/clarkdale was replaced by 1155/sandy bridge in January.

Although depending on what the computers for you may be better off with Llano (socket FM1).
