 I think we should stir it up a bit by having only a dislike button. That way the community can regularly can tell certain members how much **** they spout out.

Thing is, in real life, most people are pleasant to each other because of the likelihood of having an aggressive or violent interaction should they carry on like they do online. On the internet, it's much easier to be a grade A **** because there are no physically aggressive or violent interactions.

Likes and dislikes, upvotes or downvotes, and all similar functionality are validations that release feel good chemicals in the brain to keep people using a given platform. It's basically like training laboratory chimps to hit the right button and receive a reward.

Don't you think that a reply saying "Thanks" is much nicer than a silly 'like' button?

Maybe, but how often do you think you get thanked for the best solution? Like if you end up on a software solution; the most liked on is often the correct one. The most downvoted is probably wrong.
