I've got an opportunity to get one of these on the cheap - which one is worth going for?

I'd like to be able to record on my PC with as little hassle as possible so the XT would be good as it has a USB connection - but I've heard you can use a MIDI->USB cable to get round that on the GT8.

Any recommendations? Reviews for both are good but I'm leaning towards the Pod XT at the time.

Cheers :)

i cant be of that much use seeing as ive never used an XT Live.

but i absolutely adore my GT8 and i'm sure you'd love it.

I have never hooked it up to my pc though.

/useless reply.

Some of the most professional sounding home recordings I've heard have come from my friend whom uses a POD XT Live (he's recently upgraded to the X3 Live). Out of the two I'd really be unsure which one to go for. I think the POD would have the edge solely because of the recording functionality. That being said, I'm noway near as familiar with the GT8 as I am the POD. But I've heard nothing but good things said about the GT8. So I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied with both.

I'd opt for the POD though. :)

Just a bit of a progress update - I bought a PodXT Live off ebay but I've ended up getting a refund as the guy couldn't find the official box/cables that come with it. I've just bought a Pod X3 Live off GAK instead!

I've also ordered 3 Fender Lace pickups (red, blue & gold) and I'm getting them put into my Strat next Monday, when the guitar will also be re-set up.

Can't wait! Will post pics once the guitar is back from the guitar shop and the Pod X3 is here :D

GT-8

I have the XT Live myself, but i used to have a GT-6. I wish i'd kept the GT-6.

The XT live has lots of potential if you want to use it want to record and use a variax and the workbench software, but for playing or gigging, then i'd choose the GT-8 every time.

If you want to record with Line6 stuff make sure you're not using 64bit vista (or XP64 probably) as line6 still haven't released 64 bit drivers

Nah, I'm on 32-bit XP at the moment, happy with it.

I'm hoping to get a Variax guitar soon, it'd be awesome. I played one in a guitar shop today and it sounded absolutely brilliant. (only played it "acoustic" though as it were, they had no Pod's) But by "soon" I probably mean "2-3 years" :D

I have the 600 and can't rate it highly enough. It has a superb neck that just plays like a really nice Strat (not that there's such thing as a not nice Strat). The playability of a Fender with every sound you could want.

I've got a 300 that I bought off my Dad for £150 and I had it professionally setup so it plays like a dream.
My Dad had the 600.

Yesterday I had an old friend in who goes around the pubs and blues/folk festivals playing acoustic blues.
He put the 300 on and I turned it to the Acoustic setting, he played a few chords and asked if it was supposed to be a Martin? - I nodded.
I switched and he said the guitar was now a 12 string Martin and I nodded.
He correctly guessed all the acoustics, resos, jazzes, semis, strats and teles.
He was that impressed that he rang me 3 times to confirm what he'd been playing through while he was talking to mates.

Take a look at the Vox Tonelab LE, it's honestly the best multi effects pedal i've ever used. I've used the Pod XT and X3, the GT6 and the GT8.

The tube really makes a difference with it, it sounds so much warmer and organic than the others, although it's still obviously digital to the ear.

And to record to PC, i just use a Jack>3.5mm phono lead and put into the line in port on my sound card :p

I'm actually in the market for a multieffects unit.

My PodXT has just broken so I have been looking at the Boss GT8, Vox Tonelab LE and Boss ME-50.

I'm going to use the unit infront of my Vox AC30 so the amp models aren't essential but if they can be disabled then they are an added bonus (I can use them for practice late at night with my headphones).

I'm not looking at the Line 6 stuff because they don't have many distortions available and the floor board for them is in excess of £100. (Although they are good for direct into a PA or a PC)

So has anyone had any experience with any of the above 3 units?

Also if I need to record I have a Mic so PC hook up isn't essential.

I must say the Vox unit has been catching my eye; and is the GT8 worth it over the ME-50? 'cos its only another £80 on GAK.

Cheers

The Tonelab (Vox) can turn off any amp/cab models, so you're literally just running the effects through it, which is exactly what i use it for through my LC30. It's an amazing pedal :)

Thats what I wanted to hear. How are the distortion pedals on it? and is the Wah any good?

The distortion pedals are really good, they sound pretty close to all the originals, the Proco Rat copy is my personal favorite.

The wah's quite good, there's a few different models of it and you can really play about with it all, there's a load of sounds you can get out of it.

It's a really amazing pedal, full metal construction too, i've dropped mine by accident once and everything still top :D

I really don't like Boss products - never have done. I've had nothing but problems with single FX pedals I've owned in the past.

I'm in the market for a multi-fx in view of not having to use my amps and instead using my PC (for praccie). I was thinking of a PodXT, but if there's better alternatives...
