Line In + Optical Out = not working

ok well basically, I have my amp connected to my computer via optical out, and I have my PS2/Wii etc, connected via Line In. Problem is, im getting no sound through the optical out. It seems to come through the Line out instead. Anyone know how I can force the Line In to output through the optical, instead of the Line Out port?

Under sound settings, select playback device SPDIF. You can plug the ps2 straight into the amp.

yeah, but I the point is, I need to PS2 plugged into the Line in on my computer, for recording purposes.

Well then change the playback device to SPDIF, although can't you just use a lineout from your amp?
