Im having problems setting up this router its a Linksys WRT55AG router and its connected to a Linksys ADSLMUE Modem.

The internet works when the computer is hooked up to the modem via a network cable. so i know it works like that.

Problem im now having is i cant get the internet when i hook up the computer to the router.

The router does not have a modem built in, its purpose is the wireless and the 4 ports in the back.

anyone have the same sorta setup?

ok basically i have a network cable going from my modem to my router, and then in port 1 of my router i have a cable going to my computer.

basically what i want to do is tell the router that the modem is providing the connection, i ahve entered all the ISP details into the modem and it works

When i take the network cable out of my modem and into the router it fails to work.

I think its down to my DNS but where do i put these? unless you know the interface of the router im talking about i dont think you can help me

ive got to the point where im so frustrated! only reason im setting all this up is because my old netgear went broke

What port's the router connected to? The WAN interface, or one of the switch ports?

The router should be getting an IP, DNS servers etc from the modem.
