Is there a program that will boot almost instantly thats just for playing dvd's from your linux pc? Also, could this be set to dual boot with ubuntu for example?

I also wanted something like this as I'm in the process of sorting out a media PC and hooking it up to my LCD TV.

I found myself installing Kubuntu, Its a simple distro with KDE. Set to auto login and a few short cuts on the desktop and its sorted.

There's one which is a LiveCD... you run it then when it's loaded in memory you eject the CD and stick your DVD in the drive and watch it in mplayer. Was compatible with DivX/XviD too.

Can't remember the name off the top of my head... might have to go rummage around my old discs to see if I can find it.

edit: found it, it was called MoviX. Not sure if it's suitable for what you're looking to do though, but might be worth a look.

You might want to look into Freespire. However, for DVD playback (on any Linux) you might need to consider using libdvdcss.
