Listening to music whilst revising...

I think music can really help me concentrate over longer periods of time, but it has to be the right type. It shouldn't have too many words, but a nice catchy rhythm is good.

Yes. I need to have some noise in the background or I can't focus.

It's the same with sleeping. Often I find it easier to fall asleep with noise in the background than with complete silence.

Totally agree - that's a massive pet hate of mine, not only in libraries but public transport as well.

It doesn't bother me so much on public transport as it's nothing something that people go on to concentrate or go to for quiet enjoyment. It it's on the quiet carriage of a train then yes. Obviously I'm still considerate and lower my own music on public transport - it's very rude when individuals just blast it out.

of course it is.

It really isn't. It's the equivalent of me handing you a book and waiting for you to read it and work out the relevance it has to the topic at hand.

If I had said "Yo guyz. If you listen to Mozart you will get brains! Check out this link to prove my point: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozart_effect" then your reply would have been valid and necessary.

You just come across as a know-it-all as it stands, especially considering that the Mozart effect is still debatable.

nothing to do with know it all, I simply said something, as a side line to something you said. if you didn't say anything, there would be nothing to quote or comment on. What is the big deal? and why did you take massive offence over nothing.

Because it's annoying when people incorrectly chip in with their two pennies worth starting with the word 'Except'?

Why is it annoying and why is it incorrect. There's to mozarts effects. Long term intelligence gain which is totally debunked and short term memory/intelligence gain(which is relevant one for a revision thread). The first is pretty much totally debunked, the second has been shown to be more to fdo with what you lie, tan a mozart effect. The first test which was sensationalised was Mozart vs calming music vs a reading. Which is not a broad enough subject.

I listen to tek-house, trance mostly.

But if I have to study I find that classical music played *softly* in the background helps! Just fire up Winamp and let the stations play..or that LastFM Scrobbler app.
