Been playing online for a few months and have the urge to try my luck in a live tournament. Are there any that anyone knows about regularly hosted in the Birmingham area? Smaller buy-in the better to start :)

Many of the Gala casinos have almost daily poker tournaments , buy in starts from £10 at our local one

came 2nd in a 200 player online one last night ( just thought I would add that :p )

Hmm interesting, I'm a member at the Gala in Birmingham but only go once a year or so. I'll check them out and see :)

Whats the quality of play like at £10 buyin?

mostly rubbish though there are the regulars that play most nights

I came 11th out of over 100 in my first game ( £30 buy in )

Whilst I've got your attention Rotty, I'm going to Vegas next year and I know you are our resident expert on the place :)

Where can you recommend that is newbie friendly for getting a game of poker there? Either small tourney or low stakes Cash. May even be able to persuade my missus (well, she'll be a wife by then ;)) to sit down if its friendly enough.

who told you I'm the expert I'm only going 3 times this year and won't be there again until next Saturday :p

I would recommend the tournaments at Harrahs , around $50 buy in , 100 or so players and a relaxed atmosphere

there is also a midnight tournament at Imperial Palace with a $30 buy in which is ok in a drunken sort of way ( dealers are rubbish though )

I also hear that the Excalibur tournaments are beginner friendly but haven;t played there , my brother also rates the ones at Ballys
Bellagio's cheapest tournament is a $1000 but in

will this be your first Vegas trip ? where are you staying ?

if you look in the archive I made a thread with a lot of hotel reviews etc

Yep I've already read your hotel review thread (did a search for Vegas)

Current favourite is the Bellagio, but my other half keeps cooing at the views you can see in the brochure from Wynn. It will be our first trip to Vegas, its the 3rd part of our honeymoon and we'll be there for a week. Only thing I'm not looking forward to is the heat since it will be first week in July!

$1000 is too steep hehe, $50 sounds pretty reasonable for an evenings entertainment though.

Nicely done rotty, just thought i'd add i came 3rd in titan's $2500 GTD freezeout last week - $10 +1 buy-in, took away $242.50 and cashed it out ;) :D

I think daveyd might know of some places, pester him :)

a bit less vegas - a tad more birmingham, bab...
*star city* (it has a casino and everything)
it's like a little piece of vegas squeezed into a car park next to the m6
i presume they 'do' poker - if not it's worth the trip just to see the lights :D

Wynn is nice but the location a bit worse than Bellagio , If you are taking the other half then the Ballagio is the way to go

re the Poker a lot are in the day rather than evenings

Circus Casino near the Arcadian has a Hold'Em tourny every Friday I think. Played it a coupla times, twas OK, not a particularily nice Casino though.

Dunno why you'd think that.

Star City does tournaments, not sure when they are, maybe Tuesdays / Thursdays £10 / £20 respectively, from what I remember, but that was about a year ago, so may have totally changed.

The Broadway Plaza casino has them definately, I've seen them on before, Thursdays I think. That's a far nicer casino compared to Star City. Star City is horrid, it's big, has lots of tables, but it's in the middle of a dodgy area, and therefore can attract idiots etc. Broadway Plaza is nice, higher class, fancier too.

Not sure on any others, as I've not pokered for a long time  I've got to start again now I've finished Uni!
