Does the 400D that im using not have live view compared to the 450D that does? , is the live view whereby i can see ahead of me using the lcd screen instead of the viewfinder which i can't with my 400D ?

The 450D definitely has a few enhancements over the 400D - Live View being one of them (well, if you consider that an enhancement).
However you do need to remember that although the 450D is replacing the 400D when it hits the shelves it will do so at the price the 400D did, and not what the 400D is now.

Right now you can get a 400D with kit lens for around £380.
Once the 450D is released we could well see this price drop even further.
However the 450D has an estimated price of over £500, I've seen estimations of £550+

If Live View and the other enhancements are required then I'm sure the 450D is going to be a great piece of kit.
However you may be better off waiting for the 450D and then snapping up a 400D for maybe around £350.

Don't know how much it'll be discounted by when it hits the streets but, at those prices, the 40D looks a much better bet for the money.

I don't understand the 'pffft' attitude towards LiveView. It is OBVIOUS, and also 100% clear that it is not a necessity, and a bigger and brighter viewfinder will go miles ahead of a 3" lcd with LiveView... 95% of the time.

But photography is not about 95% of the time. LiveView is a great tool, ESPECIALLY when the screen flips out (I personally do not see the point of LiveView on a regular fixed LCD). It can open up a wealth of possibilities; which allow you to do things like lay the camera on high or low surfaces without having to get on the floor or climb up things just to see in the viewfinder to frame the shot. These awkward shots can be taken quicker and more fluidly, which may allow you to capture something you otherwise would have missed.

A further point I would make, is the ability most LiveView equipped cameras have of being able to zoom in on the LCD to about 10x magnification to allow you to easily focus the image on the detailed areas of the image. For those of you who've shot landscape at night, you'll appreciate the difficulties with focusing and composing. LiveView can make you life a lot easier.

Just my 2p: it's not a necessity, but it's damn useful!
