Liverpool Fans - Is Rafa Next To Go?

the really great thing is there are directly attributable quotes in all of these owners vs benitez stories. obviously the media speculate and dress it up but there is a certain core there. i mean hell they're starting to make the glazers look good. we've got debt. pool have debt. we haven't got a new stadium. nor have pool at the moment and lets face it their new one isn't going to be quite as cutting edge as hoped. tom hicks: oh dear.

hang on lets not get ahead of ourselves here, we need to wait for Baz to enter the thread to explain to us why things are actually fine at liverpool, all this has been made up, their poor form is solely down to injuries which no other team actually has, how carragher is better than Rio, how Benitez has spent jack in his seasons in charge and etc really.

Yes Rafa has to go. But please not Mourinho. I would like to see this club playing some Arsenal style footy and to a lesser extent manc footy than boring defensive Mourinho style.

Thats right you nicey nicey Pool fans lets keep Rafa at the Pool for life!

He had his chance now it`s time for this club to move on. The truth hurts doesn`t it?

I loved the headline "Rafa dead and Boro'd"

Personally I dont think he is ever likely to win the league, Im not sure why not but in this regard he has progressively got worse

A great cup manager without a doubt, but if he was ever going to actually get anywhere he should be doing it by now

Fergie had 7 years and now spends loads of money. Mourinho had lots and lots of money. Wenger -doh-. they're definitely improving, sadly for them so are everton, man city and villa.

I don't think Rafa deserves to be sacked, Liverpool haven't got the squad to win the premiership, that's not directly Rafa's fault.
He's done well in cups, especially the Champions league.

I would be very surprised if he was here at the start of next season. The yanks are obviously feeding the media the quotes to unstettle him and force his hand into a resignation as, no doubt, there will be a hefty settlement if he is dismissed.

Hope they don't hire Allardyce though :)

heh, that's actually what i was thinking. it's like they are emasculating him, you stay quiet while you hear all this and you look like a bit of a coward but if you come out and say anything then we'll use it to get rid.they are very much asserting their authority over him.

Although surely being a manager, bringing in not only players but more importantly decent players and the correct players for the job... means it surely is Rafa's fault that they don't have the right squad?

Taking money and back room politics aside of course.

It blatantly obvious what they are doing. I mean, giving a quote like that to the local press is just like sticking the middle finger right up to Benitez.

Well "Liverpool" that being Hicks has held talks with Klinsmann.

Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks says he held talks with Jurgen Klinsmann in November about taking over as manager in case Rafael Benitez left the club.

Mixed performances and a row with Hicks and co-owner George Gillett on transfer policy put Benitez's position in doubt.

"We attempted to negotiate an option as an insurance policy... if Rafa left for Real Madrid or other clubs rumoured, " Hicks told the Liverpool Echo.

He added: "Or in case our communication spiralled out of control."

Hicks was alluding to the criticism of Hicks and Gillett by Benitez over their transfer policy which angered the American duo and put the Spaniard's position in jeopardy.

Klinsmann's services have now been secured by Bayern Munich and he will take over the German club at the end of this season.
The confirmation of talks between Klinsmann and his bosses will come as a blow to Benitez, although Hicks said the negotiations took place in November when the club were in danger of going out of the Champions League at the group stages and suffering indifferent league form.

Liverpool needed a 4-1 win over Marseille in their final group game on 11 December to book their place in the knockout stages.
The American owners and Benitez had clear-the-air talks after the Premier League loss to Manchester United on 16 December and Hicks now insists the Reds manager has their full support.

"After George and I had our long and productive meeting with Rafa following the Manchester United match, we put all of our issues behind us and received Rafa's commitment that he wanted to stay with Liverpool," said Hicks.

"We never reached agreement on an option with Jurgen, and we are both pleased for him that he has a great opportunity to return to Germany and coach a great club team.

"Rafa has both of our support, and our communication has greatly improved."

Why is that funnt, Beofre Moyse Everton where relegation foder every season, now they are challenging for Europe for the past 4 /5 seasons. But of course Kopites don't see positive side of anything.

Under moyes taking over from towards the end of 02....

15th
7th
16th
4th
11th
6th

Although we haven't been consistent at all under moyes I do think he's made steady progress. The seasons we finished 16th and 11th it would have been easy to sack him.

It doesnt really compare to liverpool to be fair because there is a world of difference between 4th and 5th best teams. Liverpool aren't playing well yet are 4th with a game in hand. I'd say Everton are flying and won't beat them to fourth this year. I guess it's down to expectations.

Regards Rafa I always have the feeling they have something despite him not because of him. I think he's gone but not til the close season.

Dont know what to think really. Id rather see Rafa backed with real cash to build the first team he wants. Bring in anyone like Mourinho and they'll want to do the same. I dont think there is anyone currently available who could do a better job than Benitez.

It's a very simple question requiring a very simple answer. If Liverpool are satisfied with a good cup run and finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th then Benitez is your man. If you wan't to win the Premier league then time to look elsewhere before the gap gets too wide
