I've just bought a Fuji S9600 and the LCD liveview gives no idea of exposure; just composition and focus. Is there a problem with my camera, or is this normal for some cameras?

I've tested the camera out at a gig too and expected the results to be much better in lower light than my aging Canon G3 was, but first impressions weren't good.

And does anyone know what's happened to the search facility on here? I was going to add to an old thread rather than start a new one...

The same happens with the view on the LCD of my 9500. I think if you half push the shutter button you get a proper 'live preview' of how the image will record.

To get the most out of low light conditions I found it best to shoot in RAW and use Photoshop and Noiseware pro to process the image rather than use the in camera image processor. A well exposed shot at 800iso should clean up well usng Noiseware pro. However I've not used a Canon G3 so cannot compare.

Thanks for the reply, even when the shutter button is half-pressed the screen doesn't show a proper preview of how the image will record.

I'll have to have a go at shooting in RAW next time and see if there's an improvement, though there also seemed to be a problem with the auto-focus. I switched off the guide-light things as it might be annoying having those shining on you...

I've also managed to lose my lens-cap already!
