Local resident wants me to park elsewhere. What can he actually do?

I used to park on a street in Belfast and the local residents complained, but there was nothing they could do. Until one afternoon someone went and stuck a knife into all the non-local cars parked on the street and a few on neighbouring streets (at least 40-50 cars). All four of my tyres were done and the car was scored all down the passenger side. Of course nobody saw anything. It was effective from stopping me parking there though.

Yeah, as said, the risk to your car in this case is vandalism, not any legal action.

I've no idea why some people get so up tight about stuff like this though. If there's plenty of space to park, what's the problem?

Report him to the Police for Harassing & threatening you & your motor, That'll learn him. :p

I was just about to post this, but in all seriousness.

Just keep parking there.

Next time he comes out, 999 and tell them you are being threatened by some mad old geezer.

Kenai got a good sugestion. Go to local police station and say that this chap is threatening you with damaging your car. Or call cops yourself when he comes up next time to you.

I would start to drive pass that street reving the **** out of my car with no silencer in and parking somewhere else. I would **** other ppl off but at least i would feel better myself. I love to **** people off irl :)

Dont let go cos he will WIN. You dont want ******** to win do you ??

That makes you no better than some tool who would slash your tyres and key your car because of were it's parked.

While it's not the most mature of choices (yes ironic given my "fixed" above :p), you can't really compare being a bit noisy and annoying with criminal damage which could potentially cost thousands to fix.

Of course you can. Both are ridiculously childish and immature responses to solving a problem. And I'm sure if you were driving past that spot every day getting on like a tool, it wouldn't be too long before a resident had compiled a nuisance report on you for how you're driving through the area.

It's weird, there's acres of room for street parking down the road and hardly any of the residents do, so I really don't see what his beef is, especially with me varying which bit of the street I park on so much.

Either way - I'm going to mix up where I park more, there are a couple more roads close to that one that I can rotate around. I'm not going to stop parking there entirely though, and if he starts on me again I'll just tell him that I'm not interested in what he has to say and if he doesn't mind terribly I'll be going about my business now.

I get really annoyed when people who don't have a driveway seem to think that the road outside is their personal parking space that they have rights over.
You can park there and there is nothing he can do about it.

The question should be:
Will he be an A-Hole and key it?

Quite. I live close to a school and sixth form college which for about a year has been getting a pretty extensive re-fit and doesn't currently have a car park. Being the second nearest road, we get quite a lot of sixth formers parking down our road.

Do I care? Nope. Have I had an occasional mini-tantrum because I had to park 200 yards from my house? Maybe one or two but I got over it :D

I would be annoyed if people kept parking in front of my house, but I realise I can not do a single thing about it.
