Logitech Z5500 - Any BASS without SUB?

the problem with thx is that it is so watered down for pc speakers that it effectively means nothing. a set of thx pc speakers will be a good set of pc speaker. it doesnt mean much more than that unfortunately

i guess it dosnt mean to much being that the z5500 are pc speakers, but they are thx certified after all

Lucas sold out THX. So now THX means squat, when they used to be on speakers like M&K S-150 and Lexicon MC-1 av pre-amp. However those were THX Ultra gear.

THX for multimedia means squat.... heres what it says on the thx website about multimedia certification:
Transform your cubicle into a desktop theater with THX Certified multimedia products. THX engineers spend an average of 100 hours testing each desktop multimedia speaker system and sound card. Every aspect of a product’s operational performance is tested, addressing compatibility issues, complicated setup procedures and user controls. The result is a class of products that are redefining desktop entertainment.

it says nothing about having to meet a certain level of quality or a that the product will be high quality, just that it will be compatible and easy to use....

has anyone on here done any back to back testing or seen a 'group test' of the S750's vs Z5500.... cos i've been thinking about going to the z5500 so i can have digital inputs (ps2 in to my speakers...) however i can't find anyone who's had both it seems that people either get one or the other....

Its all down to personal taste, I know for me the S750's are compleatly useless since I need coax.

See here its a bunch of mixed reviews, everyone has different oppinions, some people generally talking crap etc...

Some people say the S750 sub is boomy, some people say it is not, some people say they are crap for music, the Z5500 has had all these said about it, were I got my speakers at the moment on my Z5500 (its in 2.1 config for PC) I can put my ears close to the sattelites and it still seems like bass is coming from the sats even though it clearly is not since the sats cant product that, I think thats related to the fact my desk is in a corner and the sub is behind me about 1-2m away in the other corner and I cant even tell the sub is behind me most of the time.

Its all about placement, apparently the Z5500 is boomy, but all I do is turn the sub down to a normal level and its not boomy then.

The only thing making me buy PC speakers still is the price, they really are not bad for the price, I like my bass, and some bookshelves and an amp for udner 200 quid wont deliver anywere near enough compared to these PC speakers and I'm not spending loads on seperates anytime soon, I hope to get a real 5.1 some day and have a rough idea as to what I will be getting, but at the moment its staying PC speakers, as with 2.1 I cant watch movies.

I found my z5500 sub really boomy when i first set it up, but i found that it was because i had the bass port fairly close and pointing at a wall, once i pointed the bass port into open area of my room, it sounded great, and you really cant tell what direction the bass is coming from, It seems to be coming from the sats

Yea I have the port facing out like this:

In this position its not as boomy, the bass sounds the best when I'm on my bed, thats were I get to hear most of the tones, near the window some frequencys are a lot louder and in the corner were my desk is its generally more boomy so I turn the sub down. And were my wardrobe is some tones you cant hardly hear and some are also very loud.

the Z5500 range doesnt use tweeters just like the Z2200/2300's. Instead they use a phase plug to get the wattage and sound quality they need to be as good as they are. If you like classical music id personally choose another system though and most review sites agree with me due to the lack of a tweeter to give a better frequency range.

For games and dvds though they are insanely good.
