They are called women.
Maybe I'm from a bygone generation, but I always wave an acknowledgement to drivers who stop for me at a Zebra crossing, and appreciate if pedestrians do the same for me when I'm driving.
It seems good manners aren't fashionable these days.

To be fair out of courtesy I would always tend to acknowledge a driver if they stop at non-traffic light pedestrian crossing. Seems the polite thing to do.

I at least nod or acknowledge when someone stops for me at a crossing, it's just like if a car waits and gives way to you when driving, I always say thanks.
