LOL moment @ Zebra crossing in Lakeside

thats the problem with this country, no manners..

it wouldnt hurt to say thanks for stopping.. she didnt have to stop, she could have kept on driving and no-one would have stopped her for it and no-one would have got hurt either as you obviously dont cross till all cars have stopped..

she was nice enough to stop, he was nasty enough to not say thanks

this is how i see it, deal with it..

i bet he's the type of person to not thank someone for keeping the door open for him, as the other person had to opn it anyway..

what goes round comes round though, maybe one day he'll get run down, then maybe that might make him not take everything for granted.. its not hard to say thank you.. just rude some people..

There's a difference between having to stop because there is a person going to cross/crossing on a zebra crossing and holding a door open for someone...
Zebra crossings are a part of road 'law'/rules, you don't have a choice in the matter. Think of it like traffic lights, if a guy presses the button and halts all traffic at a junction to cross the road should he thank everybody for doing so?
This is another car drivers are better humans than pedestrians convo if you ask me. Cars do no own the road, there are pedestrians, cyclists, horses, motorcyclists and the occasional suicidal old persons scotter-mobil as well.

I say my please and my thank you, I hold doors open for people, I give up my seat, but i do not thank people for obeying the law and not killing me today. Has nothing to do with politeness.

Bet Denied

Thanks for that, you to, though I bet you will be thanking them as you go down. Who gets the last laugh? Its me.

So, walking back to the car park, the girlfriend and I stopped at the zebra crossing waiting to cross. A car (clearly doing quite a pace) slowed relatively quickly to stop for us to cross. We cross.

Here comes the weird bit. The woman driver of the car proceeds to shout "THANK YOU!" (rather sarcastically) and drive off at pace.

Now cool story obviously... But what sort of weirdo a) expects to be thanked at a zebra crossing, and b) who actually gets bothered enough/ has anger management issues bad enough to shout at a stranger for not thanking them...?

The world worries me sometimes.

It's polite to thank a driver who stops at a Zebra crossing for you.

. Failed because he didn't thank someone for obeying the law? I thank people occasionaly for stopping at a Zebra crossing but I don't even blink an eyelid if somebody doesn't thank me for stopping for them.

Get a grip. It's polite to thank someone, she didn't have to stop, she wouldn't have got chased by by the police.

How depressing that people should get so outraged at the suggestion that saying "Thank you" is some sort of inexcusable submission. I suspect that they feel exactly the same about "Please" and "Excuse me" and NEVER, EVER apologise for ANYTHING.

Good manners cost nothing, bad manners are just cheap - I blame the parents.

edited: just noticed; the OP lives in Essex - explains a lot.

I always thank drivers that stop at crossings. Can't really rationalise it, it's just my upbringing and what seems right to me. I also sometimes jog across to inconvenience the driver as little as possible :o.

Not bothered if I don't get thanked as a driver for stopping.

Manners cost nothing, just like a smile to a stranger. Being rude does not make you cool, regardless of any "legalities" of "he has to stop".

No, she DID have to stop, that's the point. I'm not debating whether or not it's polite to thank somebody at a zebra crossing, I'm saying that the woman was completely unjustified and quite frankly **** insane to react the way she did.

lol the driver is not stopping for "me" hes stopping because its the law....

maybe you should thank me daily because i dont punch you in the face? or because i dont rob your house ?

I always thank someone when they stop, it's the polite thing to do.

The woman is bat-****-crazy for shouting at you for not however, she needs to realise that some people are just rude and it's not worth getting upset over.

I agree with this on both counts, good manners cost nothing and I always make a point of waving back if someone thanks me, good vibes all round

She's stopping for you because it's the law. It's polite to thank someone.

I suggest you go back and re-read the highway code

Actually I suggest you do. The OP was waiting at the Zebra crossing and had not yet stepped out onto it. It's not until you step on the crossing that the car has to stop.

Either way, thanking someone is the polite thing to do.
