If not it will yet again put Drones in bad light because of selfish idiots like this, even if drones were banned the point is people who want to break the law will.. how could anyone support that sort of action.

I'm actually surprised they've not timed that in with President Trumps visit. He's gotta be visiting one of the big London Airports.

But yeah they do need to start throwing the book at those causing disruption through protest, a silent protest is fine, but if your actions are going to endanger those around you, then you need to be held accountable.

Always reminds me of the pictures that were going around with them occupying some of the parks to protest for environmental change and for a greener planet. Yet when they had vacated, they had left litter strewn all over the park - so much for promoting a green planet.

Just heard on LBC that the Government has warned that the proposed action could result in life sentences being handed down.

Good, Now they have made the threat, I hope the Government delivers.

(Oh, and PS. Could we see some anti-terrorism charges being made against these useless Vegan idiots who think harassing and intimidating people trying to have a meal out or do their shopping is a form of legitimate protest too!)

Which was later shown to be a combination of fake news (some of the pictures weren't even London parks) and misrepresentation (it was from another rally) in an intentional attempt to smear the protest.

That's the power of social media viral fake news I'm afraid, people hear the story but then miss the debunking of it

Don't even need drones, just phone up and say 'uh saw one above the runway' and have a few others corroborate, they're too small too easily see from control and it instantly shuts down the airport.

If using burner phones, it's impossible to find them.

Which is why, if you do find them, the penalties need to be severe (As in US style, consecutive sentencing, 10 years/offense severe!)

Even if severe eventually the ideological constraints of saving the planet/species will be enough for them to not care about consequence at some point.

    Hero Martyrs come to mind.

Heros to who? The 100,000's/Millions of people whose lives they are trying to disrupt will party in the street!

Thats not how terrorism works. It's a 'I know better, therefore you're expendable and so am i to the bigger picture' sort of deal, and with religious extremism, we rightly call it out for being horrific, selfish and for a lot of nonbelievers utterly pointless violence, but for protecting our own future from extinction (maybe (tm))... that's a very hard sell for authorities.

Along with growing discontent politically and lack of stable economic future for youth and you have a rebellion on your hands at some point unless you turn it around.

How the future turns out is obviously unknown, but this isn't going to go away or disintegrate like other issues, as the reason for it is growing slowly, but assuredly.

I hope if they do cause any deliberate disruption to flights, in particular if it starts creating a safety issue/potentially putting lives at risk, that they end up with some serious jail time.

I'd have thought he'd have better things to do than visit a London airport tbh...

If you ever want to see a counter productive protest, these idiots at extinction rebellion are a perfect example. People aren't thinking about climate change as a result of their actions, but about how their actions should be punished.

The annoying thing is, they don't even care about solutions to the problem, they just want to rant that there is a problem and use it as an excuse to riot :(

I heard one on the radio angrily raging about how getting our carbon down by 2050 is too long and it needs to be done by 2030 at the latest because reasons/etc. But the best thing was there was an expert on the show (AKA somebody who actually knows something about the topic not just the slogans they've seen on Facebook) who explained to him that 2030 was impossible because even the 2050 target relied on technology that hasn't even been invented yet (improved battery tech/etc to make wind/solar more viable) and even then it was going to get worse before it got better as we were going to need to increase fossil power generation over the new couple of decades to make up for all the Nuclear power stations that are being decommissioned over that time period with no replacements in the pipe because of eco warriors like him crying about them in the 90's.

Notice he said it was impossible, not that it was not a good idea.

But yes, because you've got a bee in your bonnet about people protesting, let's just go "Ah well, we shouldn't have done what we did in the past, let's just bleat about the past and not do what the hell we can to stop this impending disaster."

Unironically a full scale civil war would solve it as emissions would collapse and this is the danger. Hell nuclear war would actually resolve it, just not for us.
